Pitt scholarships

The total cost of tuition, room & board, etc. this year should be around $35K correct. My parents say that they're willing to send me to a school where the cost for them will be 30K or under which kinda would rule Pitt out?

So, if you just got your acceptance letter (which I did today!), and there was no scholarship notification that came with it... then does that mean I won't be getting one? Or does that information come separately at a later date?

Thanks

Also, when I do my FAFSA... or even just call the office of financial aid... is there any chance Pitt would consider giving me $ based on the fact that I have an older brother in college which costs about $24k (since he's in-state) per year?

Here are the charges that are on my daughter’s bill for the current semester. Keep in mind that tuition usually goes up every year, and Pitt is no exception.

Undergraduate activity fee: $80
Student health service fee: $85
Undergraduate tuition Arts and Sciences (out of state): $11,521
Security and transportation fee: $90
Computer/network service fee: $150
Meal plan charge (depends on which plan you select): $1,200
Towers room charge (single room; depends on where you live): $2,850

The grand total is $15,976. Of course that is one semester, so the total for the year will be double that.

You also have to pay for books, incidentals, food eaten at restaurants, etc., expenses incurred in moving you in and out, and travel home for holidays.

You can get federal loans on your own to help out your parents, bringing their cost down below $30,000 a year. I don’t know how good Pitt is with financial aid.

Best of luck!

It also depends upon your major as Engineering has a higher tuition rate plus they have all their lab fees too.

Scholarship information will come later (there is no set date although they seem to send it out within 2-4 weeks of the acceptance letter). They only notify you if you will be receiving something so no letter means no scholarship.

You have to file the FAFSA and that information (older brother in college) is entered onto the form so your family’s entire financial situation is looked at. So what you get from Pitt or any other college depends upon what your family’s finances look like after all the pertinent information is entered.

They only notify you if you will be receiving something so no letter means no scholarship.

Damn it…

We emailed about a week after we got the acceptance letter asking about merit aid. Got a long email back that basically said tough crowd this year, hard to come by. Then a few days later we got the letter in the mail - Full Tuition and Chacellors Invite.

Coincidence? Maybe. Not sure. But can’t hurt to send an e-mail, at the least it shows interest.
