hey guys. im extremely interested in attending pitt in the fall. however, i am an OOS student, so it would cost me roughly 35000 a year to attend. (pretty rough)

im in the top 10% of my class and got a 31 on my ACTs and got offered absolutely no merit aid whatsoever. i wouldnt complain except for the fact on pitts website, it says that if we are not eligible for scholarships freshman year, we wont be eligible for the other years.

is there anyway i can appeal? rutgers offered me 2500 a year, if i could get even that much from pitt...that would be fantastic.

You could always call/email the admissions office, but they’ll probably ask you the following:

Did you submit your entire application on or before January 15, 2010? If not, then you failed to meet one of their requirements for scholarship consideration and have no strong argument to defend yourself.

[University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://www.oafa.pitt.edu/universityschlrs.aspx)

As far as I can tell Pitt doesn’t give a rat’s a*s about whatever your EFC is, and unless you have a 1450+ M/CR SAT or are a URM they are not very generous with merit aid either. Are you a URM or do you have a M/CR SAT or 1450+ (or ACT equivalent)?

^A 1450 M+CR = 33 ACT for Pitt.

that blows dude. im in state got a 31 act but top 1% of class and got 2k a year. its probably your class rank but i would try to appeal for merit money anyway.

I didn’t get any merit aid either. However, when it says that you won’t be eligible for other years, it doesn’t include “specialty” scholarships or anything like that. Not really sure how to put that… Cause as I said, I didn’t get merit aid. I did, however, get $3400 from the Slavic Department for summer classes, which is pretty much my 6 credits covered.

So… Pitt is stingy about merit aid for tuition… but there are other scholarships if you hunt for them?

Pitt is far from stingy with merit aid…much the opposite. 1400 is the SAT level for merit scholarships and if you are top 10% and 1500 you can pretty much count on full tuition at least. But you do have to apply by their required date.

i applied back in november and i think im gonna call them to appeal. rutgers gave me 2500 a year so im going to see if pitt could give me even that

…and your screen name is great.

haha thank you it was a momentary lapse of cleverness
