Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. Yeah, GT is last on my list and only on it because of the prestige but don’t think I’ll be happy there. Right now, I’m leaning towards Pitt but I keep going back and forth. It seems like I’m trying to force myself to love BU so I’m kind of stuck since I loved Boston as a city, and I think I’ll fit in there since most of the students there are all academically motivated compared to Pitt. However, I really loved Pitts campus way more and can see myself there for the next 4. I got into Honors as well so priority registration would help me a lot. As well as the guaranteed masters. But I know Boston may provide me with better internships and job placement. Since I do want to get my masters, BU’s grade inflation may hurt me. Whatever I choose, I just hope I don’t regret it at the end.
Just curious why you wouldn’t be happy at GT?
Boston would be at the top of my list for the college experience…and I’m a Pitt grad.
On a side note. Which area of business is your focus? S20 started in Scheller but transferred to ISyE. Something like Industrial Engineering might be more up your alley if you want something a little more rigorous. It’s a mix of math, engineering and business. It opens up doors for Analytics/Data Science jobs…and GT’s ISyE is tops for Industrial Engineering.
I live very close to GT so i’ve always wanted to get out of here and be independent. If that makes sense. And finance as of now!
Why’d you not like Pitt if you don’t mind me asking?
I don’t think Boston will offer you better internships and work placements. Pitt is very big in the Pittsburgh area, and Pittsburgh is a major business center. The days of sooty skies are long, long gone. It successfully reinvented itself 30 years ago and has been going strong.
Where would the cost differential between Pitt and BU come from? A part-time job? Parents’ income? Retirement savings? Parents’ loan?
A loan
As a parent, I would encourage you to go where you see yourself over the next 4 years. 3k a year is not enough to change a decision in my opinion. You only go to college one time and if you can see yourself at Pitt for 4 years over BU then that would be my choice. My brother in law is in finance and his company is based in Boston but Pitt may well offer the same opportunities.
Thank you for giving me advice!
I like PItt. It’s a good school. A nice place to spend 4 years. Take advantage of the Business Honors program. That said, Boston is just that much nicer for a college experience. I think GT would open more doors.
As for opportunities I think Boston or Atlanta would be better. Things I love about Pittsburgh are also the things I hate. It’s 10 years behind the times. If you do go to Pitt try to find internship opportunities with the small tech companies around CMU.
Thanks for your opinion!
I get it but I went to Pitt. It was maybe an hour drive from home. I maybe saw my parents 2-3 times a semester. You’ll have your own friends and activities plus there is some studying involved. Good luck. There’s no bad answer. I always tell my kids to listen to their gut. It never lies.
