Can anyone give any information about any hotels where parents can stay for about a week or so before the semester starts?
Does UIUC provide any accommodation for them?

Thanks!

The Illini Union, <a href=“Redirect Notice”>Redirect Notice; is right in the center of campus.

So, for how many days exactly do the students have to come for the placement tests and room allotment?

Its gonna depend on which placement tests your student needs to take… If the dates of the tests have been posted then thats how long you are going to have to stay for

You need to take the placement tests on-line before showing up for orientation, see [U of I Admissions: Placement Information for Freshmen](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions). You should apply for housing by no later than May 15 and you will be notifed of a room assignment by July. In other words you should not be doing either of those when you show up. You will need about a half day to actually move in. You will also have your advisory and registration session, about another half day or more, at which you will make an attempt to register for classes. I say make an attempt because if you register in Aug after everyone else has registered during the summer registration sessions, you may find difficulty getting everything you need and you might have to rely on the drop and add process during first week of classes to get something you might need. Other than registration for those who did not take it earlier in the summer, you will also find there will be about two days of welcoming events, which for many, particularly the evening events, you will want to avoid taking your parents.

There are a number of hotels other than Illini Union in the area, several of which are just to the west of campus and within walking distance to campus. You should google UIUCs address on a map and then use the search nearby tab to find nearby hotels. You should note that if you are planning to get hotel rooms for just before school starts you better do that immediately because that is a high demand time (other parents are moving in their kids and attending a couple events and staying a night or so and many of those started making their reservations the day their son or daughter was notified of admission).
