Oh yeah, sorry about the confusion. They’ve already gotten theirs. There would be know way for you to know it was coming though until you got it.

I stand corrected.

sorry if this posted twice -

fallenchemist: Son was ecstatic. FINALLY something. Now to the fun part of picking a dorm (I will be bugging people on the other threads for that).

ncbug19: The PTA UPS package was left on my porch separate from my regular mail.

I think the Class of 2013/2017 is especially bright/competitive based on what I’ve read on the National Merit threads and other scholarship threads.

Thanks! Something to wait for I guess. Congratulations to your son!

I agree, everyone seems amazing. I feel like if I go I’ll be the dumbest one there but I’m so excited.

Tulane has gotten more competitive every year for at least the last 5 years, since they revamped the program post-Katrina. Higher stats, lower admission rates, and more individualized criteria apparently. Here is an article a fellow CC’er brought to my attention:

[Class of 2017 will be smaller, more competitive - The Tulane Hullabaloo : News](thehullabaloo.com)

If they get 40,000 apps like they easily could, that is only a 18.75% acceptance rate. That is very low, which of course means very competitive. Even at 35,000 apps, that is about 21.4%, which is still lower than a lot of schools ranked well above Tulane. If the 1500/7500 numbers come true, that is a 20% yield, which is higher than it has been. Of course, those who know me know I think yield is a useless number to worry about other than it gets you the class size you want. Personally I think otherwise it measures nothing. It is no longer used in the USNWR rankings, one of the few things they got right.

Back to awards talk.

Son got Paul Tulane Scholarship. He is very happy, excited, and proud. We all are. Good luck to all those who are still waiting.

Thanks! Makes me proud that I got in, even if I don’t get a big scholarship. Hopefully need-based will cover enough.

Congrats debra! So at least half that discussion of Ivy vs. Tulane just got less hypothetical. Talk to you again after the other shoes drop, lol.

Yes! That sounds good. Thank you for offering all of the different perspectives yesterday. I have thought about all those things, but seeing it in print was very helpful. You are absolutely right about the importance of “fit” when attending a college. I can definitely see my son at Tulane, and he would agree. We visited in the fall and really fell in love with New Orleans. It was completely different from anywhere we had ever been. Of course, Tulane itself was beautiful. We went back to campus on Saturday night, and it was “bopping!” My son is very smart, but he’s also very social. He is also “into” community service as well, and when we were on campus during the day, there was some kind of community service function going on. I think he really liked that, too. As we were walking the campus, we bumped into Dean McLaren, and he and my son had a very nice conversation. We didn’t really know who he was at the time, but it was a wonderful chance meeting. We will see. Thank you, again, for your thoughts on my “issue.” Stay tuned.

I can finally breath again. I was awarded the Paul Tulane Award! I’m from Southern California and was definitely not expecting the package to come today, if at all. Congratulations to all the other winners for both awards!

That’s great emutt. Wonderful news. What are the chances now that you will attend Tulane?

Fallen - It has moved Tulane to the top of my list. I’m still waiting on the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship for Vandy but I do not think I’ll get that. How can I turn down a full tuition scholarship?? :D

Congratulations everyone!!!

There used to be a way to track what packages were shipped from a certain location so you could see what was being shipped to your zip code, but I dont recall how to do it.

For those of you that got the award, do you mind sharing your STATs? Congratulations and thank you! :)

Congratulations to everyone! Good luck to those of you still waiting. What an exciting time for all of you!

Very impressive. Congrats! You in upstate NY?
