Do you know if students are just notified they have received the DHS or do they do a phone or campus interview? Thanks!

No interviews, nothing to do now but wait. They should be sending the decisions in about 4 weeks.

Thanks, fc…your info is always helpful.

Notification was around Presidents’ Day last year, right fc?

That is correct. Usually they have sent the UPS packets (2 day express as I recall) towards the end of that week.

is the Dean’s scholarship the same as the Paul Tulane Award? How competitive is the Paul Tulane Award? (son’s stat: 3.9 GPA, 2340 SAT, top 5% from a large public HS in california, loads of AP courses, has been selected as a Presidential Scholar at Tulane).

myboby123: They’re two different awards, and had separate application processes.

There’s a bit more information on both at the link I sent you for the notification question on the other thread:
[Tulane Admission: Merit Scholarships](http://admission.tulane.edu/aid/merit.php)

Fallenchemist has also provided a lot of information on the awards on various threads on this site. My sense from fallenchemist’s postings is that the students who are most competitive for these awards tend to be the ones who’ve received the $25K and $27K/year awards on admission, so your son should be in the pool if he applied for each of them. Paul Tulane is new this year, so it’s harder to predict the results, but beyond that I’ll defer to fallenchemist, who knows a lot more about this stuff than I do!

Nothing to add to that, Arlmom2. As you say, different awards with different people selecting the winners, and different “projects” as part of the application. Paul Tulane was essays only, while the DHS has the infamous “box project”.

I did my best to make sure everyone on here was aware of both, because it is easy to not be aware of them. That isn’t unique to Tulane in the least, when my D was applying to schools none of them really brought these kinds of scholarship competitions to her attention. One has to go looking for them. I guess Tulane alerts people more than most, in that they ask somewhere along the way if you are going to apply for these scholarships, don’t they? So at least they drop a hint that it might be a good idea to look them up. At least that is what I remember.

If this year is like past years, results should be out this week!! Good luck everyone!

I’m so glad to find this discussion! It sounds like we should find out about the DHS this week based on past years - thanks for the info. The stress of waiting is a bit too much for me as a mom and it is nice to hear from others. My D fell in love with Tulane on a visit last summer and was thankfully accepted with a Presidential merit scholarship. The DHS would make her decision an easy one. We’re NOLA natives that were forced to leave and head west after Katrina (employment) and my kid sure wants to go home. The U of Utah has offered her a full ride with academic and music scholarships, but as a musician, her heart is set on Tulane and New Orleans. We can all wait a few more days, right? Thanks again for helping me feel less anxious.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the admissions counselor I was in contact with today, “The DHS will be released in early March with the Paul Tulane Scholarship to follow…” That seems to be very different than in the past. I have been following this thread and I really was thinking we’d hear something this week based on what others have said. I don’t think that is the case this year.

OOh, the agony bummer.

Something tells me Tulane received a lot more worthy applicants this year. Perhaps it’s taking longer to go through all the essays, box projects, etc. I think the “student loan debt” epidemic has gotten a lot of students…and their parents really rethinking the whole college selection process. In any event, this wondering and waiting is sheer torture.

Geesh! Sheer torture is right. I think we’re just ready to make a decision at our house. What’s two more weeks, right? :)

I’ve been patiently waiting for my son to call his admissions counselor this week and find out when we might hear about the DHS and Paul Tulane. I was very hopeful that we would hear before he visits NOLA for the first time for the honors invite weekend. But, seeing this, yes patience will hopefully be rewarded. It’s great to hear that so many are checking out Tulane. It helps everyone :D

Two more intense weeks for us as ski racing ramps up to the champs part of season. We’ll get there quick enough.

A friend with an accepted daughter emailed her admissions rep just today. The response she got was as early as the end of this week through the end of next week, the DHS notifications would be sent. Just one more answer to add to the mix.

Well, that would be the most consistent with the past, of course. We will see.

I like that admission counselor’s response much better than the one I spoke to. Here’s the direct quote, “It varies between end of February/beginning of March each year. We hope to let students know around that window. It always depends on getting all of the Deans together as quickly as we can with all of their schedules.” It’s so interesting how different admissions counselors have different projected timelines.

This just posted by Jeff Schiffman in admissions:

Looks like they stuck to the traditional schedule.

Wow! Thank you for sharing that, fc. That is AMAZING information. I have never been so happy to be wrong!
