Placement Test at UF

I just wanted to know if a Marketing major needs to take any of those placement tests that UF requires for students who are going to take chemistry or calculus. I checked to see if I needed any of these classes and one came up on semester two called "Survey of Calculus I"

Anyone know if I still need to take any of the UF placement tests?

Also, anyone going to Preview for Summer B (June 2-3)? Recommendations for housing?
All opinions and advise welcomed, I need all of the advice I can get!!!

I am majoring in Marketing and yes you have to take it unless you have AP/DE/IB/CLEP credit. I recently took the test and it was harder than I thought it would be but I placed at MAC 2233. The main reason why you have to take it is to see if you have to take precalculus which will take the place of one of your electives.

Oh ok, thanks! That “recommended semester” outline really just confused me for a bit…

Not looking forward to taking this test now lol :(

On the preview prep, what if I have Business Administration as a second major, but since my primary major is sociology, would I not have to worry about taking it?

when you double major, you are expected to meet all requirements of both colleges you are majoring in. there is no ‘primary’ major vs secondary major–as far as the university is concerned, they are both your primary major.

I have an AP Chem score of 4, which is credit for CHM2045 and CHM2045 Lab. Am I guaranteed to not have to take these classes if I am doing engineering? It is the highest I would have to go, and I would be quite relieved if I do not have to take these two classes.

@Engineerjw You won’t have to take those classes but you should. I am pretty sure UF Chem classes are more rigorous than AP Chem.

If you have the option of skipping Chem 1, you should take it. While it may be more rigorous, it covers the same material as AP Chem. I intend to…

I will not be taking any classes higher than Chem 1 for my major, so if I can skip it, I will not have to take any chemistry at all.

I need to take higher level chem for my intended major and I’m fully comfortable with my Chemistry skills to skip CHM 2045

I’m currently taking CHM2045… Don’t rest on your laurels. I took AP Chem and passed. Took CHM2045 for credit @ CC and its’ ridiculous… you may think you know it but you don’t. Just my 2 cents. Don’t shoot me.

Is it like a weedout class like Calc 1?

Thanks @jeromefulton, I also wanted to ask how is Marketing at UF? Is it hard? Does it consume a lot of time? Any advice on Marketing at UF would be awesome :)

i cant speak for its difficulty, but UF has an excellent marketing program.

Marketing Ranking:
Overall: #23 (tied)
Among Publics: #9

other rankings have them significantly higher. i don’t think anyone ranks them below that.

Does anyone have any information about the Chemistry test? I’m really scared about it because I haven’t had chemistry since tenth grade because I didn’t take AP Chem. (Everyone talked about how scary it was) Will the test be on a AP level? If it is then I’m in trouble, well even if it is a honor level I will be in trouble because I hardly remember anything from tenth grade. lol

Same here. I took Chem honors in 10th grade. I got an A but Chem at UF is definitely going to be much harder than what I took. I don’t remember any chemistry so I’m trying to find someone on here that can give me an idea of what I should do this summer to refresh my memory

you could work through one of those AP chem review books

Which one do u think will be a good review book

Hahah im in the same boat too …plus my 10th grade teacher was HORRIBLE so I barely know anything. Thanks so much for the AP book suggestion…I hope it works because I don’t want to be stuck in an intro TO AN INTRO class … ;)
