Pre-Preview

Hi guys,

I just wanted some information on how to prepare for preview, so I have a couple of questions:

Do I need to take any placement tests before going, and if so, which ones? I’ve completed all the way to Calculus 3 through Dual Enrollment, so do I need to test for this? I have a friend who got credit for his Calc 2 class, but took a placement test and got placed into Trig. UCF still allowed him to go straight to Calc 3 and he passed with flying colors, so is it really necessary? Also, I got a 4 on AP Chemistry but I still want to take intro to chem, Do I need a placement test for this at all?

How should I prepare for preview? Have a list of classes that I want and make sure I know what I want before I get there, or should I wait to talk to an advisor and ask his or her’s opinion? Will they have my academic record laid out for me?

What all should I bring to preview, like clothes wise and bedding wise? What else will we be doing besides registering for classes?

I cannot speak to UF, but since you mentioned UCF . . .their policy is that EVERYONE takes the math placement and (if STEM) the Chemistry placement. It does not trump your prior credits/experiences but allows for a realistic conversation with your advisor as to where you should be placed.

the UF webpage on taking the ALEKS placement test says it is recommended to take the math placement test even if you have AP or dual enrollment calculus credit

and you can take the test online prior to Preview

I have a question about Transfer Preview – anyone know if you have to sign up for courses THAT day? Or can you wait till you get home? Because I usually like to check out RateMyProfessors before registering for any class.

@arkansas303 If it’s like freshman preview, you sign up that day, however, you can still add/drop courses before the semester begins (during the normal add/drop period).
