I was about to hijack another thread when I realized it would just be easier to start a new one. This has probably been hashed out before, but I'm too lazy right now to look it up. So here are some of my suggestions of places to eat when visiting KP, add to it and this could become a nice little list:

Great Neck/Kings Point:
Deli on the Green - a great sandwich shop near the Academy. Also serves beer and other sides for your enjoyment with your sandwich. A "must" as far as I'm concerned.

Bruce's - A very well known bakery in downtown great neck that I would rate a B+, but probably your best bet for around the area. Has a very good selection and a pretty good breakfast.

Peter Luger's - steakhouse on Northern Blvd. I love steak, so it's a "must do at least once" place in my book. It is very expensive, but was probably some of the best steak I've ever had. They serve steak by the number as in Steak for 2 or Steak for 4. They only accept cash or their own credit card. For a group of 4 I went with it was around 200, but it was my dinner for graduation and one I'll remember. Thanks Dad.

Delano Hall on a day other than Parent's day or some other big event - :) just so you can understand the food midshipmen really eat day to day and not just the "good stuff" they bring out for the parents and others. You'll understand the misery of a midshipman that much more, haha

Other towns:

Majors steakhouse - can't remember exactly where this was, but it was out near the Marriott in Garden City. A very good steak at a much more reasonable price than that at Peter Luger's.

I'm sure there are others that I really liked that are not coming back to me right now.

Scobee's Diner on Northern Blvd serves a perfect breakfast with great service. It's open 24 hours so I would be happy to stop in anytime I was hungry.

Bruce's Bakery in Great Neck has a good breakfast. It has spectacular baked goods, chocolate, etc. You can stop in to refuel, or order online anytime for your midshipman's chocolate craving.

kp2001, to jog your memory for some more great places, here's a very broad listing the Admissions Office puts out of almost all the restaurants in the Great neck area.

Re: delano hall - I don't think there are really any other times to be honest, but you could always wait out back while your mid brings you some of the finer tastes, haha.

atl: just looked at the list, definately not that great, but it's a start. I saw Panchos in great neck listed there, DO NOT go there, except for the drink specials. The mexican food there is poor at best, unless it's gotten significantly better in recent years.

There was one other place in downtown great neck that was really good that I didn't see listed. I think it was called Millie's and it was on great neck blvd on the other side of the street from Bruces. I'm not sure if it is still there, but it was pretty tasty.

I second that! During parents weekend, KT did not want to eat in Delano, so we ordered a pizza, eggplant parm and an antipasto delivered and proceeded to have a picnic under a tree on the football field! It was fantastic! AND they were so nice about delivering, even went back and brought us some more plastic silverware!
