Okay... I haven't been here in a looooooong time. I have scanned through a lot of the discussion threads. I am nearly embarrassed to start THIS discussion (if there is any) but I simply MUST know.

What is the BEST STEAK to be had in Annapolis? I have heard a number of different thoughts. I've heard Lewnes Steak House followed by "but it is a little pricey." What is pricey? Ruth's Chris Steak House is pricey to me... it may not be to others.

Someone else said Middleton Tavern has a good steak - nice and casual. Then I heard a businessman say Boatyard Bar and Grill is a favorite steak place for the D.C. crowd. Still ANOTHER couple who were in from Texas visiting their plebe said they found a little Italian restaurant "just across the bridge" that has THE best melt-in-your-mouth steak they had EVER had. Of course at the time I did not note the name of said establishment.

Any tried and true thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

I hope I didn't come across as offensive. I didn't mean to. If you post it on the parent's site, more 'rents will see it and you (and I) will get more info.

When you come to this site, just look up top and click on U. S. service academies. It'll take you to the list ( all of the academies and the parent's sites) and just hit the parent's site. :)

"When you come to this site, just look up top and click on U. S. service academies. It'll take you to the list ( all of the academies and the parent's sites) and just hit the parent's site."

That is EXACTLY what I wanted!!

Truly- THANKS and look to see if I can find my way! :)

"In-town" restaurants are all pretty good. Most will have entrees in the 20 -30 range.
Chains are out on the highway. "Outback" is near the mall for example.
"Across the bridge"--I think its called Eastport--are a number of nice restaurants, including Ruth's Chris. All are priced comparably.

Italian restaurant right off the circle--two of them actually--are good. The one across the circle from the Academy seems to have good pizza. To the right of the circle is a real good italian place; a bit more "formal" eating, i.e. complete meals.
All names escape me.
Across from the docks--is it McG?????--the bar on the Academy side is a casual place that has decent and reasonably priced [well, that term is relative in Annapolis] food.

The Crab place on the circle--especially if you know of no other place--is good but a bit overpriced.

Of course, no trip to Annapolis [don't you wish you owned this place] is complete w/out breakfast at Chick and Ruths.

Oh . . Son reports that the ice cream place across from the docks is the best in town. [He's tried them all.]

Irish pub near the Loews [towards the freeway from the circle] is good for burgers, etc. It's good for when the downtown places are crowded.

If you want to drive about 15 minutes, to Bowie, there are a number fo restaurants [city centre shopping area] that are good and less crowded.

The Bowie along the freeway is fine. This where the nearest Target is located. [which you will want to visit during PPW for essentials not avail at the mid store] If you are looking for a cheaper hotel alternative to Annapolis, say for a quick casual visit, this is an area to consider. [Although across the Bay Bridge--yes, the big bridge along US 50 to easetern Maryland there are also some cheaper hotels that are 5min from the yard.] If you go to Annapolis with some frequency, you won't always want to pay over $200 for a room.

Eastport is a very nice part of Annapolis; yes, across a small bridge from downtown.

Neither Baltimore nor D.C. are available to Plebes w/out a chit.

Got this in an email...
"Personally, Carey, Michael, and I enjoyed our time at the Chart House, on 2nd Street. We dined at the Chart house for Carey's Birthday and they had a menu in her name and made the event a dining experience. The food was perfect and service was excellent. Reservations, well in advance, are a must."

a lot of local "who could possibly know this exsists?" places and the tried and true...
THANKS to all who replied and feel free to continue to comment!

According to the parent's club website baltimore harbor is within 22 nautical miles. However, I would still put up a chit if going to the Harbor. My feeling is that the 22 miles refers to statute miles and not nautical miles, because the entire reason for the 22 mile radius is to keep mids away from both Baltimore and DC...

Someone mentioned Italian, but forgot about the best Italian place in town, Piccola Roma. Its cheaper than a Ruth Chris/Chart House, but I'd reccomend atleast nice casual. However, probably my favorite place, and a restaurant most mids don't know about, is Yellowfin. Its a great steak and seafood place located by the Route 2 bridge and looking over the South River. The most reasonable priced place in town for quality, and unlike Buddy's actually has outstanding seafood. My personal favorite is their fried calamari. They pan fry it (as oppose to deep fry) so you don't get the overcooked rubbery stuff that almost everywhere else has... definitely warrants a look.

I'm sure this qustion has been asked before, but since I don't recall the answer, here goes...

Where is the best place to get crabcakes? I mean the real deal - not just some touristy place. We live on the coast & have our share of seafood places here, so we're pretty picky (Aha! There's a pun! "Picky", "Crab" - get it? :)).

Anyway, we haven't opted for crabcakes on any of our trips to Annapolis yet as we wanted to find out the best place to go. Any suggestions??
