Hotels:

Local Accommodations

i'm from the area...literally, i live a mile away in goleta

here are some places ranked by popularity
Big strip malls:
Camino Real Marketplace (the place is quite charming during the day, but watch out at night)
Calle Real (stores close a tad early)
Fairview

Movie theaters:
Camino Real
Fairview

Restaurants:
IV (the college town Isla Vista) has a few OK places, but need something upscale go to SB or Montecito for something WAY upscale

Bars:
There are a lot of clubs and lounges in SB. Everyone says Santa Barbara has great nightlife, but really I don't know.

Shopping:
I think Isla Vista has enough for basic needs. SB (esp. State Street) feels like Rodeo during the summer, and b/c there are so many British and Euro tourists, you'll have to pay a premium for everything.

Local hotspots:
Meh? I'm only a HS student that stays home all the time, so I don't know. Camino seems to be hot among HS students thgh.

Tips:
Avoid Goleta parks at night or you'll meet some drug dealers and child predators.
There is a de facto curfew in IV...out after 11pm and you can be sure the Foot Patrol will be watching you.
Again...don't visit the parks at night...I don't know why but there is a tradition of junior high having sex there (eww...)

thanks for the info siglio.

any other thoughts from students at go to ucsb??

you could def kill a day shopping and walking around state street...and prob another day going to random other places around Sb like the wharf and the mission

Alright, I'm from LA and I go to a fair amount of clubs and bars here. I like electro especially, so can someone please give me some info on good clubs that play electro in SB or let me know if there are any in SB that do?

This might be able to help:

OMG!!! Hell Yeah!!! Thanks for the research.

I love electro clubs too!!! haha

Dude. I have a disorder. If I have no electro, I die. lol. Yeah, I know I'm lame.

If you go to UCSB, there's always something to do, so don't worry. State Street has every kind of restaurant you'd need with different price ranges, shops (big and small), and is just fun to hang out around. There will usually be some sort of street performer (look our for the guy that has the rat that rides around on top of the cat which rides around on top of the dog. Give him a dollar for his pets. He's not a performer, necessarily, but he's a cool guy and will let you take a picture with his pyramid of pets). Before 21, there's always people out in IV and downtown, after 21, there are bars in IV and Bill's Bus (the bus version of tipsy taxi) can take you downtown. The popular clubs/bars don't play electro, but I'm sure you could find some.

As for "Hotspots", in IV, it's pretty obvious once you're there. DP (Del Playa Drive) is the street nearest the beach and is the most wild. Bands will often play at the CaliRoll, Subway, Starbucks patio or at some of the co-ops like BIKO. Mostly, you just go to the party you know about/were invited to. Downtown, the area around Paseo Nuevo is where you'll find a lot of people and it's around here Bill's Bus drops people off and thus has the hottest bars for UCSB students over 21. There's also a place called "campus point" which is basically a cement square on the bluffs where sometimes people hang out; I wouldn't call it a hotspot, but it's good to know about.
