Hey all
I'm a transfer that's headed to charlottesville.
what's the deal with housing?
grounds? off-grounds?
i've heard transfers usually wind up in gooch-dillard?
i like to have a good time, so i'd prefer not to be in a 24 quiet hour dorm?
anyone have any input?
thanks

Hey, I don’t know whether you are still looking for housing, but a friend and I are looking at a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on 14th street. It is $1560 for 3 of us, so $520 per person, and it is a luxury apartment (unfurnished though). You can walk to campus and the apartment is really, really nice, I just saw it in person today. Please let me know whether you’re interested (send me a PM). The lease is for 12 months starting in mid June.

man you really need to do some searchig. But this is the most helpful site i found during my search. [isivirginia.com - Housing: Finding a Place to Live near UVA](http://isivirginia.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=26) either on campus or off campus.

What had been known as OffGrounds was also helpful. I lived at College Park since it was a private bedroom and bath for less than $400/month including most utilities, but it was a little “far” and not really a safe walk (Old Lynchburg Rd. and part of JPA Ext.) to the nearest bus/trolley stop. However, they did offer a shuttle to grounds that ran every 20 minutes or so during peak class times.

And Gooch-Dillard/Lambeth are typical upperclassmen dorms. Lambeth is closer to Rugby Rd and the Corner…therefore, closer to the frat/sorority houses and parties/social life. Gooch-Dillard is closer to the AFC and the engineering school, and it’s fairly tight quarters, but I wouldn’t call it a 24-hour study dorm. Brandon Ave. had been a nice place to rent because it is SOOOOOOOO close to Central Grounds and the Nursing/Medical School, but in the past few years it’s gotten very noisy from work on the South Lawn Project…I don’t know how much of it is left until completion though. Since my brother started at UVA in 2001 to when I finished last year, one thing has been consistent more than anything else: construction. Something is always being worked on, and contractors have no problem starting work at 7am in the morning.

On grounds housing really sucks, and there are still off-grounds options available.
