I was looking around on a college forum site, much like this one. I stumbled upon someone who, two years ago, had written about the exact same experience as me on my essay. My experience was unique; my best friend died in a car crash the same way this person's friend did, participated in the same sport my friend and I did, and was even applying to the same school! I was planning on writing this essay-- should I follow through with this idea? Will the admissions staff remember the essay someone else wrote, and possibly label my essay as plagiarism of some sort?

bumping. anyone?

I really doubt it; If you consider that maybe >500 people (if it is a large college) read around 20 000+ essays (again dependant on college size) each year, it is unikely that 1 would stick in their mind. Even if it did, it is unlikely that the same person would read both essays… Finally, they would then have to find the other essay to prove plagiarism which could be hard, but also if it did get that far, they would hopefully see differences in writing style, and focus… So, I would not worry. Annoying though.
