@txcollegehopeful when did you submit your application?
packet or just a plain envelope from Plan II?
Just a plain envelope @DallasTracy --are we the only ones? I thought those letters came much later.
Thanks…we have a skinny envelope sitting on the counter waiting for my daughter to get home
.
My son received a thin envelope from Plan 2 today as well.
For what it’s worth to anyone who received the thin envelope today, we know several excellent students from previous years who did not get in. One had a perfect SAT score and was accepted to MIT, but not Plan II.
Thank you… I was really really upset last night after reviving the thin envelope. I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong.
The admissions counselor at our school said that plan II really looks at the application holistically and focuses strongly on the essays rather than the numbers. She used to be an admissions counselor at UT. She said they really look for the “Plan II-ness”, whatever that is. She said that you would write a completely different application if you were applying to BHP. My point is that it is very subjective and I don’t think that it necessarily reflects on how strong a student the candidate is. Those admitted are strong students but many of those not admitted are also strong students.
Also, we were told by BHP admissions reps that both BHP and Plan 2 look for a very specific “mix” of students rather than seeking students with specific credentials. So for each “spot” applicants are competing against others who offer similar attributes to the program…and who else applies with similar experiences and accomplishments is merely chance and not a reflection on any one applicants relative strength. That is why you will see posts of accepted applicants with lower “stats” than someone rejected. The "stats’ they look for are very subjective.
What is the thin envelope, is it a rejection letter? I thought those wouldn’t be sent out until March?
Thanks for the input guys. It was a rejection letter, I didn’t think they came out until later too
@redwood20 sorry to hear that!
My daughter received skinny envelope today. She is not home yet, but assuming this will be disappointing news for her.
sorry @mom121 ! Mine is still waiting to find out. Seems to be a very competitive process, and probably very subjective.
Good luck @CorpusChristi and others. No news is apparently good news. Very sorry for those who received the thin letter, as we did. Admissions process is grueling bc you can have done all the right things and be smart and hard-working and still feel it’s not just good enough. We are grateful to have not been strung along with no word from Plan II, then a rejection in late Feb/early March. At least we can move on now…
For those of you who have gotten rejection letters, did y’all already receive your majors?
@UT6234 I’ve been accepted to the College of Natural Sciences, I got that like, late December, but denied plan II
Can someone explain plan 2 a little more? Is it worth going to over a state school (that’s avg) where I have to pay significantly less tuition
@renwa If my description doesn’t help very much, make sure to go on the Plan II website. You’ll likely find what you are looking for there.
As far as I know, it is a highly selective honors program. It’s not just a program, though-it’s a major (pretty sure you can still double major in whatever you’re interested in, though). You take on a more rigorous and more unique course load. Some classes, I think, are even exclusive to Plan II majors. There’s an entire brochure you can look at on the Plan II website with a bunch of valuable info, so be sure to check it out when you get a chance.
If you want the challenge/rigor of the program, it’s probably worth it. I don’t know too terribly much about it (I’m an applicant to it at the moment tbh), but I have only ever heard good things about it, both as a program and in relation to Plan II majors’ futures.
