I submitted my Apply Texas and Honors Application by October 15th, and I was wondering when I would hear back from them since Plan II has rolling admissons.
Plan II sends acceptance letters in groups. The first letters are typically sent out around the first week of December, and the last few around the end of January and mid February.
@warrenbass is correct. If you do not hear from P2 in the post-Thanksgiving round it does not mean that you are lower on the list or less qualified. P2 has to wait for admission and departments (majors) to make decisions on acceptances before they can offer. It seemed in the last couple of years that the end January and end February tranches of acceptances were larger than the first post-Thanksgiving round. My own son was accepted in February and still received a most generous P2 scholarship. So don’t worry. Waiting is a total pain for sure!
@EngPII Would you mind sharing some of your son’s stats? Also, I know a girl who last year got accepted into her major in November and then only recieved Plan II admission in late February. She was nervous because she had submitted honors and ApplyTexas in AUGUST!
@nadiaSW, Plan II admissions can be like that and often difficult to predict. My OOS son applied in early October and didn’t hear from Cockrell until Feb, then P2 right after that. He had the usual very high stats and test scores, typical of P2 students, but did not come from a ranking HS and in fact was not in the top 10% in GPA/Ranking. His school had 50+ seniors in his class. GPA of 3.87. The essays AND the detailed expanded resume are very important. Not sure if others spend a lot of time on that resume and look at the tips on the P2 admissions page, but my son did–as much time as on the essays. Since everyone applying to P2 look good on paper–stats, SATII scores, interesting and broad capabilities/extracurriculars, including liberal arts-type interests–it is hard to chance such strong students, and most will also be accepted to top private elites or other top public honors colleges and programs.
But the timing…even the P2 office will tell you not to read much into the timing. One of the UT admissions mysteries.
What if we put Plan II as our first choice major? I talked to someone who works in admissions and they said they dont have a preference for if you put it as 1st or 2nd but I’ve heard different things on here.
@MaybeHarvard2022 Plan II actually suggests that applicants select Plan II or a COLA major as their second choice since getting in is pretty unpredictable, even if you have perfect stats. I actually don’t think it matters if Plan II is your first choice major because from my understanding, Plan II conducts admissions separately from the general university admissions.
Has anyone gotten into Plan 2 yet? How do they notify? Is it email. My status, or snail mail? I am thinking (hoping!) that next week will be a good week for honors acceptances!
Snail mail. MyStatus usually updates a few days after receiving the acceptance package @Mills6
@freshman167 thank you! Wow, so find out first from snail mail. Interesting.
Has Plan II sent out anything yet? It seems they’ve done so later than in previous years?
Last year, the first acceptance posted on CC was on December 9th… could be any day now @gpop123
So my daughter did not get a status change today like several did. Anyone know when next round is for Plan 2?
@Mills6 people got status changes for Plan II?
@Mills6 Usually after the first P2 wave, P2 acceptances follow each wave of major decisions. That being said, getting into your major in one wave isn’t a guarantee that your P2 acceptance will come immediately after. I know people who got into their majors in November but didn’t get into Plan II until February
@MaybeHarvard2022 Yes, they did. People on other Plan 2 thread posted stats etc. Good luck!
@Mills6 can you provide a link?
My daughter got into P2! Probably yesterday and missed update…it is tiny!
HI Mills6 – did she find out online or by snail mail? On the UT website? THANKS
