Rice, Dartmouth, Duke and Cornell. What about you?

Rice, Duke, Stanford, Wash U, Penn, Yale, A&M. I got into Rice, was waitlisted at Wash U, and deferred SCEA at Stanford, and I find out about Duke, Penn Yale (and Stanford) April 1st, I really have no idea what to expect from them.

What major did you apply for?

At UT, I have listed the plan II major, and the Biology major (Human biology? i think (with Dean's Scholars,)) at all the other schools, I generally marked something along the lines of Biology or political science. I dunno, its all very likely to change.

I got my letter of acceptance into Plan II. I still don't get what your major is though if you do Plan II. Does your diploma say "Plan II Honors" on it? That sounds weird.

yeah, i think so, you become a "plan II major"

yea, Plan II's a major in itself

Just got into PlanII...this is unbelievable...considering my abysmal last-minute essays

have any of yall visited plan II? I went to a session thing and they were so nice...

yeah, I visited a while back and sat in on a class. The director is really nice.

and all the students were just hanging around the office for fun. They all love it so much- I think that really says a lot about the program.

Daughter just got her acceptance today.

Just got my big brown envelope in the mail from Plan II today too. Now im just waiting on BHP and a couple of other colleges. Anyone know when aid packages are being sent out? I submitted FAFSA in early February.

They send out fin aid mid april- instead of doing it earlier like other schools because they "don't need to buy students." Its so frustrating...

Is there anyone here who will be giving up another school in favor of going to Plan II? My daughter is having a tough time deciding what to do. She's still waiting to hear from her two reaches. This will be a tough decision for her.

I will most likely give up another school to attend Plan II and Dean's Scholars at UT. It's so much cheaper, and at a good location from where I am from (in Texas). I have also heard really good things about Plan II from reliable sources (3 alumni who are relatives, to be exact). I have been accepted to Rice, but still have yet to hear from places like Yale and Stanford Apr 1st, so we'll see. Who knows if I'll get in though . . .

Getrich87, Your story sound like my d's. Similar reaches. But she is also considering Baylor as they are offering full tuition plus 2 or 3 thousand extra per year. Her dad and I have told her we would definitely foot the bill if she goes into Plan II. (she'll still get the National Merit offer from UT)

Congrats on getting into Rice. That's also a big accomplishment.

One of her concerns about UT is that although she loves music concerts and going out with friends, she's not a drinker or partier in that sense. And UT seems to have that heavy drinking party reputation. I wonder if in Plan II she'd find people like herself.

I got the acceptance package from Plan II last week, during my Spring Break. It was definitely a nice surprise, especially considering the super-competitive nature of the program.

I, like getrich and ronaldo, applied to Rice as well. I was deferred from Early Decision, so I find out this week if I'm accepted. I sent in some extra materials, and I'm optimistic about my chances. I think that if I get into Rice I will choose to go there over Plan II, but this is a really nice backup.

islandmom- when i was at plan II, someone asked about drinking and the guy started laughing. He said that about 3/4 of the plan II students arent into drinking at all- that even though it is big at UT as a whole, within the program its not really an issue.

Thanks Islandmom,
I'm also not much of a drinker or partier, like your d, so I'm glad to hear from relientr that drinking isn't a big issue. I have heard the same from the Plan IIer alums I have spoken with, who say that students are generally serious. Though pockets of drinkers and the like may exist, it is not difficult to avoid them even within Plan II.
