Question for Macksimum--
Are there any reasons in particular you plan on choosing Rice over Plan II? I'm making a similar decision, though I'm not sure which way I want to go yet.

Getrich and relientr... thanks for the info regarding what you've heard about Plan II. I'll pass it on to d.

Macksimum, congrats on your acceptance and good luck with your decision. I would also be interested in hearing your thoughts about Rice vs. UT Plan II. In my opinion either option would be an honor to attend. If it were me making the decision I would find it a hard one to make.

My reasons are mostly based on personal issues. Rice was my first choice school since the end of my Junior year. I live in a suburb of Houston, so the school is just 45 minutes from home (instead of 2.5 hours). I find the campus beautiful and Rice has all the prestige and programs that I want. Also, my best friend of 5 years was accepted ED and we have plans to room together if I am accepted. Its small size is appealing to me as well. It is in most respects my "dream school."

I applied to Plan II as a semi-afterthought after talking to some of my peers and doing research online and with the Texas Common App. I didn't think that I would have a good chance at being accepted, but it seemed like a great program and one that I would be interested in. I consider it a wonderful backup.

So, I harbor an affection for Rice and like I said, my best friend got in, and so those will likely be the deciding factors should I have the choice. I understand that other people would make a different choice for very different reasons.

Thanks for your kind words.

Well, you have just a couple of days now for the Rice decision. Thanks for the answer. Hope you get what's best for you.

Update: I got waitlisted for Rice. Applied ED, deferred and then waitlisted. 2-3 more months of anxiousness.

Now, I shall pay the $200 to UT and accept Plan II's offer. And I gotta do all the other matriculation jazz.

So sorry about the waitlist. But maybe my d will see you at UT if that's where you end up. If that's where she ends up. Hang in there.

I got waitlisted at Rice too. Looks like I'll be going to ut and doing engineering and plan II.

also waitlisted at Duke

Macksimum--D got waitlisted for Rice also. Did your letter say something about "priority consideration"?? Are you sending in the postcard for the Rice waitlist? Or is plan II your choice now? Just wondering. (decisions, decisions) Thanks.

No, my letter didn't say "priority consideration." I think your daughter will have one of the first slots offered, then. I am going to send in the waiting list postcard; I still would like admission. But for now, I expect to go to Plan II and am going to prepare for that.

Edit - I think the main reason I got into Plan II and waitlisted for Rice was that I wrote a pretty awesome Book Essay for Plan II. I think this pushed me up over the top. hmmm... i wonder if i should sent that to Rice as another writing sample.

I also think that d got into Plan II due to her ability to write. Her book essay was well written as well as another one she showed me, IMO. I think that while you're waiting you could always send Rice any other info you would like for them to consider.

It's interesting that you and D got exactly the same decisions from these two schools.

mine did not say priority consideration either.

I applied to UT as a backup school; however, things aren't going so well in regard to my other choices. I was accepted to UT, but I would really like to apply for the Plan II Honors program. Is it too late to apply?

I'm pretty sure the deadline is up already. They've sent out their decisions. There is a plan II area on the website that you can check what you need to do in order to get into Plan II.

Sorry.

Islandmom,

My daughter was accepted Plan II December 1, but now cannot decide on Emory (Emory Scholar's program) or Plan II?

Have you made a decision?

Tough decision, Congrats on having the choice.

I'm STILL waiting for her to decide. She just told me this morning that she wants to go back up and look at campuses AGAIN. sigh.

Hi! just stumbled on this site after a ref from a friend...i got accepted to plan II in march ...and waitlisted to Rice...sounds familiar, huh?

Out of curiousity is anyone planning on attending the "reception" next week for admitted students (Dallasish area)? thoughts on the dress code?

In terms of turning down other universities-- i was all psyched to go until i recently ran into a housing snafu, but im trying to exercise a little faith.

What is the housing snafu?

Seussical== take a look at all the pictures on the plan II website and you'll see how they dress for various events. There's even a video of the Plan II students dancing to a live band. It looks to me like they're mostly casual. For the very first meeting, if it were me, I would dress a little nicer than completely casual. Your nicer jeans maybe, no tshirts with holes. I don't really know, it's just a guess. Of course I don't know if you're male or female...

I planned on going to thing in Dallas next week. Maybe I'll see some of yall there.
