I have heard that UT Austin admissions team weighs heavily on a X-factor of ‘Plan2ness’ of a candidate. If you/your child is accepted into Plan II Program at UT Austin… could you please shed some light on what characteristics of a student profile contribute to Plan2ness.
Broad world view, diverse range of interests, creativity, someone who demonstrates interest in both the arts and sciences either through courses taken or activities. Outside the box thinker, someone who will take advantage of Plan II offerings. Someone who will make the word a better place because they care about something bigger.
^^ What @txpublic said. ALL of that.
I’ll just add that the “x” factor, is not something that can be imitated. It will be glowingly apparent in the application. I’ve certainly recognized certain traits in the Plan II students that my student has connected with. I literally thought, “OMG, there’s a whole tribe of them!” It’s not “sameness”, but there is definitely a kindredness in spirit. I tell you this much, their teachers (K-12) recognized it as well–those traits that fuel the attributes @txpublic aptly described. It will have rang through their LORs as well.
And, there is one trait that I noticed, above all others, that seems to ring universally true for the Plan II students. To borrow a phrase from JK Rowling, "If you have to ask, you’ll never know. If you know, you need only ask.”
Thank you, @nomatter! I have two Plan II graduates who graduated from Plan II within the last five years. I agree with the whole x factor concept. @luckybamboo16 I forgot to say that the ideal Plan II student is also someone who is a lifelong learner and likes to be challenged academically.
I have a current P2 student and I agree - he has been “in charge” of his own learning all his life. I also agree the interest in both the arts and the sciences fits. He is very artistic but also was adamant about majoring in Engineering (in addition to P2). There are a number of kids in his HS class in P2 and they are all VERY different but I would say these two themes are the consistent thread.
Can you share their stats plz?
