Hello everyone! With nothing better to do, I've been planning a schedule for my first quarter as a Biological science major. My planned schedule:
1.)Math 2A
2.)Humanities 1A
3.)Chem 2A

Should I keep Humanities A-B-C route or take the easier alternative writing courses?
Would waiting to begin Bio classes next quarter put me at a great disadvantage?

Thank you in advance for your input/alternative suggestions.

Why aren’t you taking bio 93? just cause of the number of units?

And math is the main course you can move around (next quarter, next year, whatever).

And per the humanities core: if you only care about your GPA, don’t take it. Yes, it can clear a lot of GEs, but theres plenty of easy GEs that you can take to boost your GPA at any point.
If the material in hum core sounds interesting, take it.

And something to keep in mind if you want to learn the material but are afraid of risking your GPA: there’s no rule that says you can’t pick up the books/readings and do them on your own. You don’t need a class to learn something.

i’m confused on choosing my classes. on UCI’s online schedule, do I choose classes under the GE filter things? And can I choose any of them to fulfill my requirements? Sorry I know this sounds confusing.

correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m almost positive that bio 93 can only be taken during the fall quarter, and there’s no way to skip it since it’s a perquisite to bio 94. by not taking it during the fall, you’re going to fall behind and have to go to summer session.

Have you guys been in SPOP yet? If you’re going to SPOP, you probably don’t need to stress over this already.

Anyway, in my opinion I think you should go with the writing series, will you be starting with 39b?

Writing 39a/b
bio
chem
You can prob take math 2A fall or winter, I would just sign up for it just incase and drop it if you think you won’t be able to handle it.

I would not go with that schedule. Math 2A, HumCore and Chem/Bio? That’s a pretty rude welcome to college. imo take out Calc or Humcore.

I’m an excellent writer, passed English AP Tests and got perfect essay score on the SAT’s and I’m not even sure about taking Humcore from the stories I heard

No Junshik, I have not been to SPOP. But I guess I will have to add bio to my schedule. For those that have taken Bio 93 and Chem 1A, was it AP Bio&Chem all over again? Or did you actually learn new material? Thanks as always!

^^^I’d like to know this as well I’m stuck between Business Econ and Poli Sci. I know Business Econ is better for job prospects but I’m not very good at math. I got C’s in Honors Pre Cal and Alg II, would taking Math 2A be a bad idea?

Looking at the syllabuses, math and bio look extremely similar to what was taught in HS. I wish I could say the same for chemistry. Thank you for posting links.

Cute. I’m sure the AP grader framed your essay.

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is HumCore is not “Nonlinear Neutrino Oscillations in a Relativistic Setting” or any other insane class where you need a PhD to understand it. It’s a freshmen level class. As in, less than senior, less and junior, less and sophomore. Freshmen as in first year.
They aren’t going to massacre you. Just trying to give you some perspective.

And FYI: the 39 series is graded very gently. Most 39 teachers are grad students/adjuncts who want you to like them. If the teaching evaluations are bad, the department won’t resign them. It’s a fairly huge problem* everywhere you go.
