^I’ll probably be going to sleep earlier when I join the “real world”. UCSD has a wrestling club, but it’s kind of eh. There’s not many guys on the team, they were all pretty much state qualifiers in high school so they kicked my *** everyday, we had one tiny section of mat to wrestle on, and it wasn’t very team oriented. We just showed up, did some wrestling and left without much words spoken.

Thank you Kingselites and UCHopeful. Well I’m a person who like to stay up late (not partying though) and wake up later. I guess the eight oclock class I wanted to sign up for won’t work then? :(

^If you normally can’t wake up at 8, you’re really screwing yourself over grades-wise by taking an 8 am class unless you are INCREDIBLY motivated

@caseykleim17

It really depends on what your other options are. If you can easily take a class that isn’t at 8am instead, go for it, but if it messes your schedule up or puts you off pace with something, I would just take it.

Thanks you guys for answering my question. Enrollment is coming up and I’m really nervous because I cancelled my bookstore reservation and one of my books for 6A is this:

Principles Of General Chemistry Vol 1 W/aris Card (ucsd Custom), Volume 1, 2 Edition, 9780077470500

If it’s a UCSD custom how on earth am I supposed to find this book? Also for CAT1 is there a book required?

Thank you so much for answering my questions

^You buy it at the bookstore.

Thank you KingElite!! Can I buy it at the bookstore now even though I don’t have a reservation??

yes but call ahead to check if it’s in stock

Hey guys,

I posted this:

"hey guys, im an incoming freshman at Muir College and my declared major for now is Computer Science. Right now I’m thinking of taking Math 20C and MCWP 40 for sure. What I need help on is choosing to take CSE3 or CSE8A and possibly COGS10. So far I’ve had close to none experience in programming except for the light studying I’ve done until now. The most I’ve done is build a Helloworld java program. After taking the placement test, I was advised to take CSE3 which I was fully ready to do, but when I read the class descriptions for both the classes, CSE8A was described to be an introductory course for coding in java which needed no prior experience in java and only knowledge of high school algebra. I just want to make sure that CSE3 wont be a waste of my time. If CSE8A isn’t extremely difficult I’d really like to take it, but at the same time if it’s too challenging to take on I dont mind waiting. Also, depending on what course you guys think I should take, would COGS10 also be a possibility? I hope to get out of my dorm in college and participate in clubs and stuff, but I’m prepared to spend a lot of time studying, i just dont want to end up staying with my books 24/7 if you know what i mean.

Please feel free to ask me if you need any more info or any clarifications, and thanks for any help you can give me."

a couple days ago on another thread but no one helped me and since you guys seem to be so helpful i thought i could ask you :D. plz help me im stressing a lot and registration is tmrw. eggers who is the best professor already has a waitlist of at least ten ppl for each discussion and bucur who seems to be the next best has a waitlist of at least 1 or 2 ppl for each discussion. so now to add to my statement above, is there a way to apply for a waitlist to one class and sign up for another, and if you get a chosen off the waitlist drop the other discussion and join the one u want? and if not should i try my luck at eggers anyways or is 10 people really gonna be some tough odds? after some more research and asking around i hear that CSE8A isnt too bad so i think im fine with taking that right now. pretty much all my classes have spots open for me except for math 20C. that one is rly stressing me out a lot…and again, do you think COGS10 is possible? i dont mind working hard freshman year, but i really dont wanna be working too hard…i hope to join some clubs and organizations :(

thx for any help u can offer :]

p.s. you guys seem to be really really really prompt too and thats smthng i really need right now lol

^Well, you can’t enroll twice in the same class, so that won’t work. What you can do though, is sit on the waitlist and watch the other open lectures. If you think you won’t get the class, you can switch into another one. I think you’ll be fine taking 4 classes your first quarter, most people do. If after a couple of weeks of trying it out, if you think your schedule is too hard, you can always drop a class with nothing against you.

how long do you think most classes might take to drop down a waitlist of ten people?

thx for the help.

^I have no idea. What you can do though is stay on the waitlist and attend both that class and another Math 20C class that is open. If after two weeks you still didn’t get in the class, then you can switch to the other one.

so basically wat youre saying is that if, say class “a”, is the one i want but has a waitlist and class “b” has spots open, then i attend b and remain on the waitlist for a, wait for two weeks, and if i get a, cool, but if i dont sign up for b officially. right? and the only risk with that is that b might fill up, right?

^Yeah, if B looks like it’s going to fill up I would just switch into it.

thank u! ill be registering today.
