Hi... Im an international student from europe and want to get into a USA university, preferably an ivy.My GPA is good and I studied in my freshman year maths, physics, informatics, chemistry, biology, social studies, history, geography, english, russian, french, native(romanian) language & literature etc. in sophomore year the same without russian and added psychology and universal literature(classics).

i finished 10th grade and in september i should be 11th. but because im considered a highly-gifted student I have the oportunity to skip one year and go to 12th grade next year.

And now my question:

I know that if I want to get into university in fall 2011 i must apply in fall 2010.
but I didn't take the SAT I and II !!! I reserved them to 11th grade as I had no idea I'll be given the opportunity to skip one year.

What to do now???????

If I accept and pass to 12th grade my marks will be very good and GPA very high. That's a blessing. But what to do with the SAT???

Can I take the SAT in september for example and in the same month apply for university?

Plz give me some piece of advise or I'll be totally lost :(

So, I’m not an expert. But I do know for a fact that you can take the SAT I in October and apply for admission in Fall 2011. You can probably take some SAT IIs in November or something if needed and they should reach the schools by the Regular Decision deadlines. You won’t be able to do Early Action or Decision to any school that requires SAT IIs however. Also, pretty much no chance for a re-take in these scenarios.

But, since you’re an international student and international admissions is insanely competitive at nearly all US schools, perhaps you shouldn’t skip the 11th grade. You can have the extra year to do well in school, build teacher relationships, have more experiences and prepare for the standardized tests as well as do more research into the college process. What’s your reason for wanting to skip a grade?

If you are only 16 at the time you finish 12th grade, that could be a disadvantage for top colleges. They are looking for maturity as well as academic achievement.

Well first of all, congratulations! That’s really an achievement to be able to skip 11th grade! And don’t worry, if you do skip, you have october and november to take your SATs and SAT IIs although study a lot because you might not have a chance to retake either.

And I don’t think being young is a disadvantage. I’ll be 16 when I start college as well because I skipped 1st grade. And I have to say, I’m a lot more mature than many 17 and 18 year olds in my grade :/

If you feel ready to skip, skip! I skipped a grade because the material was too easy and the teacher’s recognized that it would be detrimental for me to waste my time when I could actually be learning.

Yeah, you have october, november, december, and possible January depending on what college you’re applying to. Take them October for EA/ED and take the SAT II (2 of them) afterwards.

US colleges will be very hesitant to put you in the situation of both being in a new place, a new country, and a very difficult curriculum. That is often a recipe for stress and disaster that they would very much like to avoid. Thus, they very well may not accept you at your age.

Another thing to keep in mind is that very few schools are need-blind to internationals. If you do not have the ability to pay without financial aid this will limit admissions at many schools.

actually, after researching a bit i came to the decision that is better to study 11th grade and 12th . that way i’ll have time to prepare for SAT and to improve my overall chances.

standrews, u guessed. i need money for college,as my family income is around 6000$ per year.but no one knows, why couldnt i be the next liz murray =D if i don’t get in at least i’ll not regret my entire life the fact that i haven’t tryed to apply.
