Question about housing

So I got admitted to UF! And I just got the housing e-mail saying the deadline is March 1. So I just wanted clarification: I need to submit the contract (with the money?) by March 1? If not I can't get housing?

So in essence I need to make my decision if I'm going there asap (to avoid any cancellation fees)?

Thanks in advanced.

Yea i have the same question.I already paid $20 like 2 months ago for housing, and i thought that was what reserved my spot in line. I want to wait for my other colleges before i commit to UF. Does this mean i’ll lose the spot i reserved with the $20 a while back??

the spot you reserved has to do with the other in which you are assigned a room; the earlier you applied, the more likely you are to get your first choice room.

the $200 fee is seperate. its a commitment to living UF dorms next year. its been a while, but my understanding is that your commitment is independent of you place in line; you maintain you place in line until you inform them that you don’t plan on living there next year. this is unaffected by when you sign the contract.

From what I understand in the e-mail… you keep your “date” for the $25 until March 1… if you don’t pay the contract at that time… you lose your spot in line and the day that you pay the contract will be your spot “in line”

Wait, the $200 is due March 1st or the $25?

^^ the $25 is to reserve your spot in line and could have been paid as soon as two weeks after you submitted your application for admittance. Now you have to pay the $200 by March 1st to keep your spot in line.

Is that refundable if you don’t end up at UF?

No, it’s not refundable.

Why did I pay $25 dollars a couple of months back if they’re not even going to keep my spot “in line”. There’s no way I’m going to make a decision by March 1st. Ridiculous. I don’t even hear back from some schools until April.

you’ll quickly learn that the priority of the bureaucracy at UF is not generally the interests of students–much less, non-students.

if you have a conflict, your best bet is to call their office and see what their policies really are.

You do get your money back, though there is a cancellation fee.

Oh the $200 housing deposit is refundable? Maybe I have it confused with the tuition deposit. What is the cancellation fee?

Someone in another thread called the housing department and the cancellation fee is $200 - so the housing deposit is essentially non refundable.

^^^ahaha… Who’d have guessed

You sure that’s not the cancellation fee for cancelling you housing contract? When I was there they gave refunds…i think it was $150 back after cancellations fees.

My friend told me the $200 is due by March 1st also (which would be ridiculous). But here it says May 1st, which sounds normal.

Edit: nevermind, I was wrong, the housing is March 1st…and it is ridiculous.

The tuition deposit is due May1.

The housing deposit is due March 1.

$200/each I believe

Is that housing deposit refundable, perhaps, or has UF given up on disguising money-stealing?

Oh, you have to pay an extra $200 to cancel it…wonderful.

Why is this due so early?

because its convenient for the university, and only inconvenient for people who wont ever have anything to do with the university again.

It’s only inconvenient for everyone who wants to weigh their options and not blindly jump into Gainesville, I think. They could at least wait until after the rush of college decisions in early April.
