Please Assist Me- Accepted

Please assist me in understanding my acceptance.

Recently I was admitted into James Madison University for their business program. The caveat is that I am currently nearing the end of my junior year at George Mason University. I will have ~90 credits by the end of the Fall 2017 semester.

54 credits from my community college were accepted and confirmed (Associate Degree Approved).

Only 3 credits from 30 are confirmed and accepted from GMU.

Below are some excerpts from my transcript credit evaluation:

“The head of the department that you choose as a major will determine if courses are applicable to the major or creditable as electives.”

"The Office of the Registrar is not authorized to award credit for the course(s) below. To request that a course below be evaluated for any JMU credit, please contact the appropriate academic department for its specific discipline and present a course description and syllabus for review. Course appeals will only be considered after your tuition deposit is paid. An appeal review does not guarantee that credit will be awarded."

My question is, are JMU more likely to accept my credits towards my major or count them off as electives if I pay the deposit ($250) and appeal? I definitely wouldn’t want to start at 60 credits again.

Also, if I pay the deposit, can I ever withdraw my acceptance after the deposit deadline?

Suggestions are very welcome.

Thank you!

It looks like JMU is considering you a community college transfer not a 4-year transfer. They allow 90 credits from a 4-year but only 60 from CC. You only have two options right now. Walk away or pay and appeal. You just have to decide what you will do if you are denied the appeal. You can walk then, but you lose your $250.

You can withdraw your acceptance or cancel your enrollment basically at any time up until the first day of class. Just be sure to sort everything out with the billing office so that you don’t owe any money, and make certain that your class registrations are truly cancelled so you don’t generate a transcript.

If you only have one year left at GMU, why are you so anxious to transfer out?
What information do you have about JMU’s transfer credit policy? Does the website state something like “maximum of 60 credits from a community college, maximum of 60 credits from a 4-year college or university”.
What information do you have about the number of credits that need to be earned at JMU? Does the website indicate that you must earn 60 credits there?

If you have strong reasons for going to JMU, $250 might be a pretty small amount to pay in order to have the rest of your coursework evaluated.

Thank you for the information happymomof1. I did not know I could withdraw my acceptance that far out.

I have found these set of requirements in order to graduate from JMU:

-Have earned a minimum of 25% of credit hours (30 credits for degrees programs of 120 credits) at JMU

-Have earned at least 50% of credit hours (60 credits for degrees programs of 120 credits) accepted by JMU from accredited senior (four-year) institutions of higher education, including JMU

-Meet course prerequisites for the major regardless of where general education requirements were completed

-Must be attending JMU during the semester in which degree requirements are completed

There is no limit to the number of hours that may transfer to JMU.

It seems like I would have no trouble meeting those requirements if my appeal went through. Yes I believe that is the case as well. I really have to reflect on this matter. Thank you again!

It seems like my reply got deleted for some reason. Yes, I guess that is what it comes down to; walk away, or pay the deposit and take a shot at the appeal. Thank you Eeyore123.
