Transfer after one semester?

I am currently enrolled at George Mason University as a Freshman but I would like to transfer to James Madison University in the Spring.. I have looked at the tranfer requirements for JMU and I saw that you must have completed or be on track of completing 24 credit hours. For the Fall semester at Mason I will be taking 15 credit hours. My question is, am I even qualified to transfer to JMU for the Spring semester? I know I wont have 24 hours completed but going into the Spring I will "be on track" for completing 30 credit hours. So will I have a chance of transferring after one semester or will I have to wait a year to transfer?

I would like to note that I am 100% sure that transferring to James Madison is what I want to do. If I did not have flaws in my application I would have most likely gotten admitted for the Fall semester.

The way I read it, “being on track” means that at the time you apply, you’re taking classes to complete the 24 credit hours. Assuming you’d be applying during Fall semester, at that time you’d only be on track for 15 hours.

That’s how I saw it too but some of my friends who graduated a few years ago told me that they they were able to transfer after one semester. I told them the same thing about how i needed to be in the process of completing 24 credit hours but they seemed to think that that was not an issue.

Then you probably should contact JMU for an official ruling. I doubt that admissions officers will be impressed by either my opinion or your friends’. ;)

Could your friends be talking about people who came into college with AP or dual enrollment credit, so that by the end of their first semester of college, they had 24 credits or more?

I have another question. Would it be easier to transfer if I remain undeclared or would it be easier for me to transfer if I went ahead and declared my major? I’ve heard that it’s easier to transfer if you remain undeclared but again, that’s is only what I have heard.

I was wondering does anyone know how competitive JMU is as far as the transfer process goes? I went to a four year university last year. This semester I’m going to NVCC, I’d like to transfer in the spring though. My GPAs are:

College GPA= 3.3
HS GPA=3.66
