Please chance me at JMU

I live in Northern Virginia.
My stats:
-Freshman-Junior year GPA: 3.66 weighted and 3.3 unweighted (got a C in AP AB Calc junior year )
-SAT: 1850
-ACT: 28
-Took 4 APs so far and taking 4 more senior year
-7 honors classes
-good amount of EC's

I know my GPA is pretty low. I basically got straight B's. Do I have chances at James Madison University?

Yes, but it’s close. I think you are above GMU/VCU/CNU and below UVA/W&M. Your schools should be JMU and VaTech.

Agree, JMU would be a tight fit, sort of a reach.

Closer to Mary Washington and then the VCU, CNU level.

I think you will be fine. You may not get in early action, but I would apply by the deadline. You should be fine for April 1, based on what my daughter’s friends were finding last year. What else is on your list?

My son got in RD for Fall 2011 as a Virginia resident, with a 3.6 weighted gpa and an 1820 SAT. He took 8 weighted/advanced classes (AP and IB) and 10 honors classes. He had strong leadership and EC’s (captain on varsity baseball, summer job, community service, etc.) The fact that you took AP Calc will get you extra consideration, which they mentioned at an admissions panel I attended. This is because they know it’s harder than most AP classes, other than maybe AP or IB Physics or Chemistry. They value the rigor of your courses above all else. That’s why people can’t really go by just gpa. I’ve seen them take people with a lower gpa but tough classes over others with higher gpa and fewer tough classes. I think you have a very good chance. Good luck!

I’m going to say you have a fair-good chance considering your course load.

How many times have you taken the SAT? You can try it again and possibly break 1900 or 1950.
