Please Chance Me, Brown University (:

Hi! I'm attempting to get into college, and Brown University is my top choice. I'm applying to others- Wake Forest, University of Virginia, Vanderbilt, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and UNCC (safety.) I'd like to know my chances for Brown, though.

I am female, a senior, and caucasian.
Weighted GPA- 4.8
SAT- 2050. Math- 620 (low, I know) Reading- 670, Writing- 760. I just retook it in October, though.
I am 2nd in my class out of approximately 350-ish (I would be first, but I got mono during my summer Latin 3 course and made a B. Plus it was ridiculously hard...lol)

An interesting fact about me is that recently, I was chosen to be a student presenter at the WorldView Symposium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Here I and a friend gave a presentation entitled, "Demystifying Cultural Barriers, One Penny at a Time," and have been invited to give it again at two other locations.

I have also taken 9 AP classes, seven online- 3/4 of my classes have been online. My recs are rather good (I've been allowed to read them) and my essays are good as well- in my opinion. I know that I have taken the most rigorous schedules possible offered at my school.

I'm simply looking for feedback, and appreciate yours greatly! (:

I think your chances are pretty good. Your test scores are a bit low, but you retook the SAT I, so hopefully those will rise. By the way, what SAT IIs did you take, and what were your scores for those?

Your extracurriculars are good, and the fact that you have taken several APs online seems to me like it can’t be anything but a plus, because it shows how you’re willing to go the extra mile. By the way, I was thinking about taking some classes online. What website did you use? How did you like it?

Additionally, your letters of recommendation and essays are very important. How do you think those will be? If you’re fairly certain they’re solid, then you’re golden.

However, I must say that at the end of the day, Ivy chances are pretty unpredictable, so you can never be too sure. Still, you’ve got good a chance as anybody else!

Dude, from what I understand, online classes are fairly easy to do well in. Correct me if I am wrong.

In all honesty, bsmd11, it depends on the course. I have had a few that are truly easy- Latin 1, Russian, and AP World, for example- and others that are extremely hard- AP English 3, Latin 3. It also depends, I have found, on the teacher. Although Latin 1 was easy, I learned a ton; even though APE3 was hard, I also learned in that class. Conversely, in Latin 3 and APUSH I learned next to nothing. So the class determines the experience. They’re a great option if your school doesn’t offer much.

mizditi: My state has an online public school and that’s where I take all mine from. However, the University of North Carolina Greensboro offers online courses, as do many community colleges. I’d say take your chance and try some! Like I told bsmd11, it depends on the class if you like it or not. I hated some because I learned nothing and did busywork, and some I loved because I actually learned. One negative I have experienced with all online classes is that you miss that social interaction- that spark that you get from being in a tangible classroom- and that takes away from the learning experience somewhat. But again, it depends (:
