Hey guys I am planning to major in engineering, and am currently a junior. I have began to look at Lehigh, Michigan, Illinois, Carnegie Mellon, and Purdue. My weighted GPA is 4.235, and unweighted is 3.71, with an Sat score of 2200. I also have an 800 on the Sat 2 Bio, and am planning to take Math 2 soon. Every year I have taken all Honors, and Ap Classes possible. Junior Year (first year they are offered at my high school) I took 4 AP, and 3 honors classes. I am apart of the First Tee Foundation, my school Key Club, and play 3 sports, in which I plan to receive 6 varsity letters. Any input on my chances at these schools would be greatly appreciated, and if they are reaches, safeties, or average. Thank you.
P.S. Should I take an ACT as well?

Also, does anyone know anything about the I.B.E program at Lehigh? From what I have heard this is very interesting for me as a degree in Engineering and Business would be offered.

ACT is up to you, I would recommend it if math and science are strong for you (which I assume they are from what you’ve written). Illinois and Purdue are safeties. Others will be average to reaches, relatively speaking. ECs and SAT are decent. If i had to give any recommendation to improve chances to any colleges, I would say bring up unweighted GPA, add volunteer hours or work experience if interested. And, again, this recommendation is just relative to your other areas.

Thank you, and math and science are my strong suits so I will probably take ACT relatively soon and hopefully score well. I am also taking SAT again this weekend, and hoping to score over 2200.

Also, admission statistics are scarce for most of these schools, is it safe to assume that to get into engineering program at a certain school it is slightly harder?

I cannot answer your Lehigh question, but yes, the engineering program may be harder to get into, having additional requirements or being more competitive. I would research the specific program your are interested in, contacting the school if necessary, to find out about program-specific requirements.

Your current SAT score is near the equivalent of ACT at 33. It would be a more accurate chancing if you provide the individual section scores. Your GPA is a bit low for top engineering schools though. Anyway, Purdue should be a match for you. For UMich and UIUC engineering, they have very similar admission stat. The average GPA is ~3.9 and the mid 50 ACT is 31-34. Considering oos status, you need to aim at the 75% for a decent chance. The admission rate for UMich has been going down. UIUC has a much higher admission rate but mostly due to the non-engineering and mostly in state students. For oos engineering students, the admission rates for both schools are low (estimated ~25%). Moreover, UMich put more emphasis on GPA.

Publics care less about ECs, etc.

You have at least 3 OOS publics on your list. what is your home state?

how much will your parents pay? OOS publics usually do not give much/any need-based aid…and you wouldnt get much/any merit from those 3 schools.

If your parents will pay all costs ($50k-60k+ per year), then fine. If not, then be sure to apply to a couple of schools that have good engg and will give you assured merit scholarships for your stats. you dont want to be caught with no affordable schools and YOU can only borrow 5,500 for frosh year.

are you starting senior year this fall? If so, what was your PSAT score and home state?

Unfortunately my home state is NY, and I took the PSAT score sophomore year and scored slightly lower than SAT (2180). Money is not an issue, however they just want for me to find the right fit.

Is the average GPA you referred to unweighted with the 3.9? What website do you use because I saw a site that said Illinois is 3.7, as well as Michigan.

Thank you guys for your responses. And my Math Sat was 740, CR was 730, and writing was 730 as well.
