Please Chance me for Brown and Stanford!

Hi everyone! It's that time of the year when incoming seniors are trying to figure out where to apply, and I'm no exception. My top choices are Stanford and Brown, but I'm not sure which ones to apply to early. My circumstances are extremely unique, so I would really like some help figuring out my chances.

I'm an incoming senior at Gunn High School, right next to Stanford ( So you can imagine that just about everyone in the school is applying to Stanford as well. These students are either Legacy, children of Professors, or Donators so it's tough to tell if you can get in)

Numbers
Public School Unweighted average:3.78
Public School Unweighted Weighted average: 3.9
Homeschool Unweighted average: 4.0
Homeschool Unweighted average: 5.0
ACT: 31 (retaking)
(im not going to take the SAT, and i don't have time to take subject tests)

I am both homeschooled and publicschooled because I train gymnastics for 25-40 hours a week. In order to graduate on time and have more time to practice at the gym, I needed to take on some classes at home to lighten the load.

Extra details
I've been recognized by the media several times. I have a 30 minute documentary coming up on my life. My parents are both Filipinos, born and raised, so I have no legacy here in the states. I took REALLY easy classes in school because I couldn't handle both practice and difficult schooling. (mind you I practice anywhere between 5-8 hours a day)

I know these schools are HIGHLY competitive. My numbers don't exactly match up with what they're looking for, but I'm really hoping my extra curriculars will help me to stand out. Please tell me what my chance is of getting into Brown and Stanford! Thank you so much!

I’d say you’re in at Brown, they love dedication to ECs and you’ve shown that in gymnastics big-time. Stanford, I know they live their athletes, you’re one, but you think you may be recruited?

Thanks! I actually do Rhythmic Gymnastics though, a sport big everywhere but the States. But thank you for your time!

Gunn has an amazing track and campus! I’ve been to your school for a track meet prior to this year’s CCS and I’ve also heard that Gunn takes competition to a whole new level… I think you have a pretty good chance at Brown. Agreeing with addymithas about the two collleges loving their athletes, but since you didn’t take any SATs, (I and II) it may hurt your chances… (I believe they prefer them over ACTs if not both) Amazing dedication to your sport however and your ECs look absolutely brilliant. It’s all up to your essay IMO.

Lol I don’t know about the campus but yea the track is actually pretty nice. I took an SAT before, and then I did hire a tutor, but I just wasn’t getting the results I wanted. So I took the ACT and did a lot better. Thanks for your opinion! I’ve hired someone to help me out with my essays so hopefully I can get in! Thanks again!

I have friends at Gunn, and Stanford and Brown are my top choices as well  small world.

Anyways, I think you have a great shot at Brown and maybe Stanford, although it’s a shame rhythmic gymnastics isn’t big there because then you’d be essentially in! Your EC’s are great (funny, I have a nonprofit too!), and your scores aren’t out of range, just slightly low. Definitely retake the ACT and or SAT and maybe do some subject tests. Good luck with everything!

Some other awards…
National Spanish Exam honoree(3 years)
California State Champion (5 years)
Recognition of Efforts for non-profit(3 years)
Expected to graduate Top 25% of highschool
One of TFC’s Most Inspirational Fil-Ams
Combined homeschool/public school UW 3.9
Combined homeschool/public school W 4.2
Please chance me! I’ll chance you!

Wait JK I mean top 50% lol

Actually I have noooo idea what percentage I’m in. Gunn is WAY too competitive

While your story and ECs are really special, and cool, I think you are going to have to do something to convince either of these schools that you are going to be able to stand up to the academic rigors of those colleges. (You’re not going to be able to major in sports, and you are not a “recruited” athlete.) Can you pull up your scores? I think a very good subject test set of SATs would help if possible. Can you take a college course in the fall at Stanford? Just a thought.

I go to Gunn High school, right next to Stanford. It’s ranked 64 in top high schools of the country. I maintain a good grade that most people spend 8 hours working for, while I only spend 2. You can’t be a world class athlete without being able to know how to work hard. I truly believe that I can handle it. My friends say that after Gunn, college is easy. So I think I can handle it.

I can pull up my ACT to a 34 also. Thanks for the input though.

Bump… Please chance me!
