Work: Around the neighborhood, I'm a dog-sitter and occasionally a babysitter. I'm working as a lifeguard this summer though!

Music: I've played the Piano since the 6th grade (about 5 years thus far). Once I entered highschool, I participated in Gold Cup, which is sponsored by the NFMC. I have gotten a Superior Rating (5/5) each year since (3 times). In addition to piano, I also learn music theory (which is why I took AP Music Theory). I take the Texas State Music Theory Test every year in high school, and in 2011, I became a Bronze Medalist for my score.

please help!

You have good EC’s and great SAT scores. Your uw gpa is a little low but I think you have a decent chance at of these colleges (im not a expert though). As long as you write a great essay I think you will be accepted and you should be proud of your accomplishments I wish my application would look like yours. GOOD LUCK!

Specifically, I’m wondering if I even have a shot at Duke, Dartmouth, or Vanderbilt? Or am I aiming too high?

Also, some corrections on my resume. I’ve been a member in Mu Alpha Theta since Freshman Year. Also, I have only taken the SAT and ACT once (January and February, respectively). Should I retake one of them?

Thank you for your feedback!

For Dartmouth and Duke, think your stats are too low, both rank and scores, for an unhooked candidate. I think you’ll do well among the others.

sigh that’s what I thought…

Thank you! One thing: do you think I should retake the SAT?

~.b.u.m.p.~

Scores aren’t bad, rank is the much bigger problem. How tough is your school what state are you from?

Texas, and I’d like to think my school is pretty difficult?

The question is does it send at least 10% to T10 schools? Here’s a general scale:

Elite HS: ~30% to ivies plus Stanford and MIT
Very tough HS: 15 plus percent to ivies plus
Tough HS: 10% to ivies plus
Strong HS: 5%

Oh…I don’t know where I could find that information. But my school was ranked in the top 300 schools out of all high schools in America?

Wait, I found it!

5.7% of last years class went to Ivies. I don’t know about ivies plus, but 6% for JUST ivies is something, right?

Pegir, just looking at that number and your rank should give you the answer to Dartmouth and Duke. The chance is isn’t very high, but you should still apply. That being said I think you have a good shot at the other schools.
