Please chance me for New College of Florida!!

Hello everybody:)

So, last minute I had a change in heart when I found New College. I'm staying home for school, at least for the first two years to save money, but if New College accepts me.. I'll want to stay for all four. So far, I've only been accepted to USF (the only school I have applied to). I'm trying to get my application done and in by the end of this week, in time to still be in for Early Admission. I loved everything about the school, and that is just making me even more nervous XD

I am a terrible test taker... so I just hope that doesn't blow it.

Okay so here it goes

Slightly competitive public high school/ full time dual enrollment
White
class rank: 146 out of 569 (first 100 slots are automatically IB because they weighed all their classes 0_0)
Weighted/Unweighted: 3.5/4.1

I've taken: Soph: 3 honors
Junior: 1 Dual Enrollment credit, 3 A.P, 4 honors
Senior: Full time at local State College (Will be graduating with 28 college credits)
My schedule right now.. Intro to Bio class and lab, Psyc, Econ, ENC 1102
they only took like 15 kids out of that 569 to do full time dual enrollment

New College said if I was accepted my credits would not transfer over, instead they would just let me override prereqs.

Test scores >.>
ACT:25 (W 27,M 26,E 24,S 24) 9 on essay
SAT: a lot worse, I think its a R 480 M 580 CW 530

New college said that I would here back from them by mid March.. so I don't think I have enough time to take the ACTs again and have them sent in...

EC's
FFA 10,11,12 (V.P 12th, Reporter 11th)
Biology Club 11,12 (Secretary 11th and 12th)
NHS 12

13 week, 7 hours a week leadership training (STAR) .. it also counts as community service

I am the only youth to sit on Healthy Start Executive Board

I did 175 hours of community service at a science museum

Awards:
1st Place Regional Science Fair (10)
2nd Place State Agriscience Fair (11)
1st Place Regional Envirothon (11)
2nd Place Agriscience Fair (12)

Competitions I participated in but didn't place as well in:
Horse: 156 out of 450?
Livestock
Enviromental Science: 9th

And I work 20+ hours a week at an ice cream shop to save for school.

For my essay I'm doing how the science fair boosted my involvement in school activities and pushed me to take a rigorous schedule..

So yeah. If anyone could please give me advice that would be great. Or help me on anything:) Thanks !

And I’m sure people will catch on but I meant to put unweighted/weighted XP

Your classes look good but your test scores are really low (sorry, just being honest). I believe NCF usually likes to see at least high 600s for SAT scores. They are especially critical about writing (there is a lot of it) and your writing and reading scores are quite low.

How are your grades at the State college? If you have a 3.5 or higher (unweighted college GPA) they may take a second look. I notice on their admissions page for Transfer students they say they like to see a 3.7 college GPA.

Good luck.

Don’t be sorry, I need honesty! I talked on the phone with them and they said their average ACT scores were between 27-31… I think I could raise it, however, I think it may be too late, even if I signed up for the test this month.

Yeah, my college grades are good, so hopefully they do :/

thanks!

From what I have heard and read about NCF…it isn’t insanely tough to get into.
They like students who can challenge themselves and are creative. They do look at scores of course but if you feel you are lacking in some areas on your transcript I seriously encourage you to talk to some admissions people at NCF. They are incredibly friendly and if you show your determination and put yourself out there in the interview they will definitely consider you.
I’m sure you know what you are getting into w/ applying to a school like NCF. Much smaller classes and they encourage each student to shine as an individual. They really prepare you for graduate school and there are no grades so they really push you to be a better student.

About your essay make sure you express a little more about who you are, not just as a student.

Good luck and seriously keep in touch with the admissions people and schedule an appointment for an interview. That interview can help boost you.
