PLEASE Chance me for some LACs

@arcadia, 87.5% of Attending Students submitted either the SAT (36%) or ACT (47.5%) and the other 12.5% submitted 3 scores under the Test Flexible Policy. As the blended avg SAT (old and new SAT) was ~1430 and the avg ACT was a 32 (which converts to a SAT 1470), I’m not certain what your posting is trying to point out as the scores seem consistent with a total blended avg. of ~1450.

Why are you blending the SAT scores and the ACT scores? The new SAT scores seem to stand on there own. For Hamilton, the average is as you note ~1430. Are you suggesting that Hamilton significantly disadvantaged students who submitted ACT scores relative to those who submitted SAT scores (by ~40 points)?

Many have questioned whether the ACT to SAT concordance tables are correct (supplied by the College Board without consulting with the ACT based on a study): e.g., CC’s “New Discussion SAT concordance table - compare old and new SAT scores” discussion board.

Your initial assertion was: “Regarding post #4, Hamilton’s avg accepted SAT last year was a 1465, so it’s a true reach with a 1420.”

If the average total SAT score for Hamilton’s enrolled class of 2021 was around ~1430, is a score of 1420 a “true reach”?

The OP’s gpa is reported as (with a good number of APs): “3.98- all As and one A-”

Their rank: “Class rank: 4/155”

Hamilton ranks both of these factors as more important in their holistic decisions than standardized test scores.

I think you have a good shot at Hamilton and Conn. Wes, Amherst and Middlebury will be harder. I would say Amherst and Midd are probably downright "no"s. But good luck to you! What is your backup plan?

I don’t believe that Hamilton publishes average SAT scores.

Accepted averages don’t really mean as much as enrolled averages. Lots of accepted kids with the higher scores will turn down offers to Hamilton for more selective schools, no? It’s really interesting to see how colleges tweak information. I kind of with the rankings would just go away, but that will never happen.

OP, if you’ve got past the arguing between the two posters (take it elsewhere guys, this kid is looking for help) I’m hoping you have apps out to schools less selective. What are your safeties? My D had similar stats/list and was also rejected at Colby and WL at Bates and this was four years ago, its even harder today. If you don’t have schools other than the ones you listed previously you need to start making a list of schools that still accept applications or there’s a chance you will have lost out this year. Your list is super reachy and not balanced. I’m so sorry to put it bluntly like that, but it is what it is. Honestly, I think you have a 50/50 chance of admission to at least one of those schools but I’d be prepared for the worst case scenario. Best of luck to you and we will all keep our fingers crossed !!

I agree with @NEPatsGirl that, while you’ve got a chance to get into one or more of the schools you’re waiting on, it’s by no means a sure thing. Unfortunately, there are only so many seats, many filled ED. I looked online and, in addition to the couple of schools I mentioned up-thread, noted that Gettysburg College accepts applications until April 15th. If you haven’t taken a look, do so. It’s a good small liberal arts college a notch down from those you’ve applied to. Perhaps worth applying?

@4Gulls, good catch. We visited Gettysburg and were impressed by the school and the small town.

The April date is for transfers.

I think you have a chance at Hamilton and Conn. Just stay hopeful. For others thinking already about next year, Stonehill is a sleeper. Salve Regina College is beautiful in Newport. Clark ain’t bad.

Hey all some updates… rejected from Amherst but ACCEPTED to Hamilton- which I am particularly excited about considering my passion for creative writing! I hear back from Conn and Middlebury and possibly Wesleyan in the morning. I can BREATHE again. Thanks to all for your honest speculations and support!

Excellent! Congrats.

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. With great essays you could get accepted to any of these schools. If you get waitlisted, send letters of interest with any updates to your application, and pick a school and say that you would definitely attend if you were accepted off of the waitlist

@youngdreamer12 , I read your post that you received sub-par aid from Hamilton. Were you accepted at Connecticut College and awarded sufficient aid?

@CrewDad Funny you should ask that… I got approximately $800 less aid from Conn, for they gave me about 20k less need-based aid, but I received a 20k/yr merit scholarship from them.

Midd was a rejection, and Wes a wait-list

oops! thanks for catching @CrewDad. Glad to see OP has some great acceptances to select from. Hamilton and Conn College both excellent.

@youngdreamer12 ur smart

Congrats @youngdreamer12 Hamilton is great! You’ll really enjoy it.
