So now I want you guys chance me for the following schools:
1. Columbia
2. Cornell (Art & Science OR Hotel Administration)
3. NYU (Stern Business OR Art & Science)

My status is:
Currently a freshman at Syracuse University, economics major.
want to transfer to those schools in Fall 2010...
GPA: 3.6~3.7 (some grades have not come up yet for this semester, but I am sure the range is between 3.6~3.7)
SAT: 1400/1600 (Verbal & Math)
2000/2400 (All parts)

My grade for this semester seems a little bit low, this is because I have taken a Spanish course which is my "third language." And the grade for my Spanish course is a B~~~ T_T
I don't know this is a good excuse or not......
And other courses are in a A range. I have taken totally 19 credits at Syracuse.

Next Semester course:
Moral Philosophy Honor;
Policy Study Honor;
Mathematical Microeconomics;
Intermediate Macroeconomics;
Quantitative Method for Social Science;
Writing.

I assume my GPA for next semester can be 3.8 at least. And there are also totally 19 credits for next semester.

High School Status:
4.1 GPA weighted (Show in my College Admission Transcript)
3.8 GPA unweighted maybe (I really don't know what exactly it is, since I have taken so many AP classes in High School and they have extra credit on grade)

AP grades: most of them are 4, some are 5.

Lots of extracurricular activities and community services in High School.
But I did not participate in many in college yet, since I am a freshman and this semester is so BUSY with 19 credits work~~~ T_T
but I did join a Leadership Program which is selective for membership and plan to be in the Honor Program and do some community services for next semester.

Personal Status: Asian, immigrant in U.S. about 3 years, male.

So, Please Chance me for the schools above that I want to transfer to...... And what I need to improve to get in those shools????? What I have missed for admission??? Thank you very much!!!!!

^^^I think NYU (if we’re talking CAS) is more of a target for the OP if he gets some more ECs in. Stern would be A LOT harder to get into.

Cornell’s CAS is definitely a tough cookie, so you’re going to have to pull that gpa up, and, again, get some more ECs which are relevant to your major. At the risk of sounding crass, I don’t think that you’d have a good chance at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration. Experience within the hotel industry is absolutely paramount for anyone applying there.

i agree with east about NYU. i think if you can do what he said (pull up the gpa), then you could have at least a shot if you write good essays. east basically said everything i wanted to say, but i also want to add that econ is one of the most competitive majors within CAS also, so you’d have to be really stellar to stand out. i don’t think columbia will work out, but it doesn’t hurt to try. you never know. if you really want to leave syracuse, add a few safeties or matches to your list.

hey~east~
so i should apply for the CAS of NYU??? I am planing to have the economic major again in NYU? What is the different between the CAS economics and Stern economics? Which one is better? do you know?

And for Cornell, I read some thread that the acceptance rate for Hotel Administration is higher that the CAS in Cornell…so i don’t really know which school is more difficult to get in? what do you think… and i know hotel administration require a interview, too…

hiironic…
I would agree with you and east, too with my current status…
And also, if you know the difference between the CAS economics and Stern economics, please tell me…I dont know which school should I apply to with an economic major… 'cause you can not change to Stern after you get accepted to CAS at NYU, that is what I know

Actually, Syracuse is a good school,too. And I love it~ it would be my forth rank after columbia, cornell and NYU. I want to transfer, 'cause I just want to get into a more “reputation” and well-know “ivy” school…lol~

And they are all operated by the economic department at NYU, even they belong to the different schools, dont they?
if i apply to the CAS economics, I may take a minor related to the bussiness stuff…
and what is your major again?

missa,
aha ~ the website said they share the faculties in both schools~ i think the difference’s just in the degree that you finally get~
you are communication major? so did you ever consider syracuse as a option? lol
syracuse is extremely good at communication, i have seen a lot here~ ^^

I’m not familiar with the classes and in-depth programs at NYU, so I can’t really help you there. I think you’ve kind of already got your answer anyway.

As far as Cornell is concerned, you’re right. CAS does have a lower acceptance than the hotel school. However, it’s not safe to assume that a higher acceptance rate means that the school is easier to get into. There’s a reason why Cornell’s hotel school is the nation’s best, and since the school is aware of this, they usually only accept students who have displayed clear interest in the field of hotel administration through real world experience. Those dilettantes who are curious about the school and have not had much experience in the field will most likely not be accepted.

Cornell’s CAS is also pretty tough to get into. In fact, I don’t think anyone in this semester’s thread was accepted. You’ll definitely need a higher gpa and more ECs in college to have a shot there. There’s also Applied Economics and Management in Cornell’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences if you’re interested in a business oriented program at Cornell, but that major is also pretty competitive.

actually, i did not know that the AEM program is the business program at Cornell!!!lol~
thank to provide this information!!!
I once read a post that the CALS school’s acceptance rate is about 40% for external transfer~~~that is a very high rate~but i am not sure for the AEM program…
I think I may more interested in the business program, but the problem is that as i get some information from the cornell website today: they require you to take two biology courses before you transfer… i expect transfer next fall… how can I have two presequence biology courses in one semester??? that sounds ridiculous… >_<
