Please chance me for these schools, thank you! I'll chance back!

Colleges I'm planning on applying to: University of Maryland CP/BC, Carnegie Mellon University (School of Science), Johns Hopkins University, Syracuse University, Northeastern University

SAT I: 700R, 800M, 750W (2250 Cumulative, will retake again)
SAT II: Math 1-800, Math 2-800, Chem-750
AP Scores: Government-3, Calc AB-5, Calc BC-5, Stat-5, Physics-4, Chem-5

Freshman year UW GPA: 1st semester-3.3, 2nd semester-3.7
Sophomore year UW GPA: 1st semester-3.7, 2nd semester-4.0
Junior year UW GPA: 1st semester-4.0, 2nd semester-4.0
Cumulative: I'm doing this off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure my average UW GPA is around a 3.7-3.8, and W is around 4.5-4.6. Also, do you think they'd like the upward trend?

HS Courseload: Everything honors and AP except electives, gym, orchestra and Spanish

ECs/Activities:
-Piano since 1st grade (I don't know if I should include this since I quit in 9th grade - I'm not sure if they'd like seeing that I quit.)
-Chemistry Club
-Co-President of Creative Writing Club
-National Honor Society/Math Honor Society/Science Honor Society (I'm definitely doing NHS, but I'm only going to do either MHS or SHS)
-Violin since 4th grade with yearly recitals
-Science Internship
-Volunteered at the local library for six months but quit because I got a new job that interfered with the timings (Do you think colleges would be okay with me quitting for this reason?)
-Job experience working at local math center

Awards: National Merit Commended Scholar, Certificate of Meritorious Service, Certificate of Merit (I think I'm lacking in this section, do you have any advice on where to receive awards? Help would be much appreciated.)

Thank you so much! I'll chance back, too.

Thanks for chancing me! First of all, to answer your question concerning quitting piano or the library, probably don’t make it a point to mention quitting or anything that might put you in a negative light on your application. Try to be nonchalant about it. For example rather than focusing on quitting the library, talk about how formative your new job was to you gaining a vital understanding of the financial “real world” or the hard work your parents do to support your family. Make the best of your past decisions. The upward trend in your grades is promising, and your scores are very good. Make sure to try the ACT if you haven’t, some people end up improving even more. I know someone who got 2100s on the SAT that got a 35 on the ACT with no classes or hardcore studying. Some people just like it better. To answer your question about awards, USAMO and Siemens competitions are really all that serve as major admission factors, and even then it really only counts for science majors. Plus they require tons of planning. I think you are an AP scholar with distinction though. So google it and add that to the list. Don’t focus on doing things just for the award though, otherwise it’s probably something you aren’t passionate about. Just be yourself and make the most of the situations you’ve been given.

On to chances. JHU and CMU are definitely feasible, and you can certainly get in so long as you nail the essay and impress them with the intangibles. Both are match schools. Try ED if you’re really set on either of them. You’re in at all the rest for sure though, consider them safeties. Thanks again for the chance and good luck!
