Please chance me for Vanderbilt, Drake, UChicago? Thanks :)

Schools I'm applying to:
Vanderbilt University
University of Chicago (early action)
Drake University
University of Kansas (selective honors program)

I'm a 17 year old girl, high school senior, and I live in Kansas. I'm getting pretty close to submitting my college apps, and I was wondering about my chances at getting into these schools. So here are some of my stats:

Academics:
3.97 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. (only got one B in high school)
4.45 weighted GPA (I've taken a lot of AP and honors classes)
Class Rank: 21
Class Size: 325
Took 1 AP class sophomore year, 3 AP classes in junior year, and currently taking four more during senior year.

Scores:
230 on the PSAT
2280 on the SAT
((no SAT Subject Tests))
35 on the ACT (But that's not counting the writing part. I only got a 9 out of 12 on the optional essay.)
5 on AP European History
5 on AP United States History
5 on AP Language
5 on AP Biology

Extracurricular Activities:
-I'm the business manager for the school newspaper (basically, I sell ads in the paper), and I'm also a section editor (designing pages of the paper, editing reporters' articles.)
-I'm involved in the Academic Decathlon, been competing in it since sophomore year.
-I volunteer at a local library, and I used to also volunteer at a nursing home before I got too busy. I get maybe like 70-80 hours of community service per year.
-I participate in Relay for Life every year.
-I'm a member of the National Honor Society, but to be honest I don't really do much for it.

Sports:
None... I'm ridiculously uncoordinated. I run sometimes to keep in shape, but I've never done any "official" school sports.

Work Experience:
I work at a math tutoring center, so I basically help kids with their homework there.

Awards/Honors:
Principal's Honor Roll
National Honor Society
Quill and Scroll Honor Society
Presidential Service Award
National Merit Semifinalist (might still get to be a finalist, I don't know)

Other things to note:
-I've visited all the places I'm applying to, but never done any interviews or anything.
-I've taken the SAT and ACT only one time each.
-I'm not the best at essay writing, as you can see by my ACT writing score. I mean, I edited each of my college essays several times, and I think they've gotten a lot better. But writing that kind of essay just doesn't come naturally to me.

So yeah... What do you guys think?

Thanks for your opinions :)

bump 10 characters.

Essays are really important at u Chicago!

bump

Yeah I know essays are important, and that’s part of the reason why I’m asking this. I don’t think mine are actually bad or anything. Seriously, I’ve gone over them so many times. But I know they’re not like super amazing either.

I’d say U chicago looks like a match based on your SAT score and your high GPA. The only problem i see is your rank, but the extra curriculars and standardized test scores will override it. and btw a 35 on the act equates to around a 2360ish on the sat so you look solid

You’re a similar applicant to where I was last year. Don’t get your hopes up for Chicago and Vandy.

Thanks, Cockrell and Anchorman  I guess Chicago and Vandy are reach schools, but hopefully I’ll at least get into Drake and KU. Well, actually I just got accepted to KU, but I still haven’t gotten a decision from the Honors program.

Anyway, this is gonna be my last bump. I was just hoping to get another opinion or two, because the people who have replied so far have said pretty much opposite things.

Hate to say it, but there’s nothing to set you apart from the hordes of other applicants.

Good luck!

Most likely you could get into Vandy.

thanks guys  Yeah hopefully I’ll get in. My parents and friends saw my test scores and they’re all like, “Oh sure, you could go anywhere,” but they don’t seem to get that at selective schools, a lot of people have high GPAs and scores and stuff.

shrugs Guess we’ll see in December. That’s when the early action decisions are available, right?

So… I got waitlisted at Vanderbilt, never bothered applying to Drake in the first place, and got deferred/later rejected at University of Chicago.

Hey, at least I’m in the honors program at my state school :stuck_out_tongue:
