Hi,
I'm a high school junior from Illinois and I'm freaking out at the prospect of applying to schools next fall. I have a couple of schools in mind and I'd like it if some chances me.
3.902 GPA Weighted
School Type: Private Catholic College Prep School (one of the best in Illinois)
Rigor of Classes: By end of high school will have taken 5 APs and majority of my classes are honors. (APs are hard to take at my school)
Clubs: Football 4 years (3 Varsity letters), Basketball 1 year, Tech Club 2 years, International Relations Club 2 years, National Honors Society, and a Spanish Tutor for 2 years
Leadership: I've volunteered for 100 hours, football captain sophomore year and senior year
Test Scores: Projected 29 ACT
Recs: Will be very good
Essay: Will be very unique
I want to major in biology or chemistry.
Here's my list of schools:
Wisconsin Madison
Minnesota Twin Cities
Brown
University of South Carolina (main campus)
Duke
Warwick (UK uni)
Butler
University of Washington

Gracias for the chances, and don't be afraid to be honest (I can handle it :))

your gpa is weighted 3.902, would that mean that your unweighted is 2.902? or does your schools gpa work differently then mine but anyways you don't happen to go to loyola, notre dame hs or fenwick?

Wisconsin Madison - good
Minnesota Twin Cities - good
Brown - Prob reach
University of South Carolina (main campus)- Idk
Duke -Reach
Warwick (UK uni) -Idk
Butler -Idk
University of Washington -Good shot

A lot of them are possible, but some are large reaches.

I don't know Warwick or Butler
Your in for Wisconsin Madison, University of South Carolina, and Minnesota Twin Cities
I would say that University of Washington is probably a match, maybe a very VERY slight reach
Frankly, your GPA, ACT, and ECs don't give you a very large chance for Duke and Brown. However, essays are a lot, so if you can write good enough essays, get a bit higher ACT/SAT, and do a few more extracurriculars, you can have a shot. Essays can be really what gets you in.

Okay well I've never even heard of Warwick or Butler.
But your weighted GPA is pretty good, and it seems like you've been pushing yourself to take hard classes.
And yet you can even handle team captain for football. Pretty intense man.
Also, a lot of EC's, but I would try to get a few more hours in for community service.

I've gotten scouted from Div I-AA schools, so I am a very good football player, but I won't be playing in college. I played so that I could go to a private school. Didn't think it would last long. I know I don't have any hooks, but if I have the test scores I should be good for the public unis.

I don't see why you aren't using football to your advantage. Then again, everybody is different. Do you have any stories you could use in correlation to your college essay?

I have my essay already planned out. it is actually a funny story that shows my will and determination. I played football for my father. Wasn't my idea, for some reason I'm just good at it. I want to double major in bio and chem, so I'll be studying the whole time. There won't be any time for long practices.
