Please Chance Me to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Wharton (Thank You)

WHARTONNNNNNNNNN! =p

My school has an excellent relationship with the Ivies. In fact, I think two year ago, my school sent 3 kids to Harvard, 2 Kids to MIT, and 1 to Princeton and last year wasn't too shabby with 2 Harvard, 1 Stanford, 2 JHU, and 1 Yale. The valedictorian has chosen Harvard for 6 of the past 7 years over the HYPSC crowd. The exception was stanford last year. I probably will have to visit all the campuses to see the various class offerings available, the type of students that attend {I don't want unsociable freaks who only study and does no ECs}, the quality of the dorms, the activeness of the professors on campus, and the job placement opportunities, and etc etc. The list runs on and on. I have to find somewhere that fits me and that I fit so I can enjoy my 4 years of college. Basically, I want to go to a school with students that I like and that likes me. :).

How are you guys/girls choosing the college that you will attend? Are their other things I should check out to make the most of my visit?

That sounds a lot like the OP. Only the OP has a laundry list of "scattered" activities.

:p. I have time to hang out with my peers, movies, parties, ski-trips, bowling, etc etc. Although my schedule is limited, I try to put time aside to hang out with my friends. More importantly, alot of them are in the ECs that I joined as well so it's much easier and more fun. :)

I think some people were really harsh. The OP said that he has good time management and that's the key to getting things done, along with motivation and perseverence (qualities that I would really like!). But you have great chances everywhere, as you probably know from your likely from Yale. Congrats!

Three words: get a life.

When i was 10 i would watch cartoons like a normal person, but over exaggerating your academic success like you are right now is pretty lame. Usually its the parents who are responsible for their children academic history (mostly Asians, not trying to be mean), but it seems u didn't have a normal childhood. Best of luck to you. I hope you get into the school of your dream, giving up your childhood like you have is a major price paid. Have fun, and good luck. :]

Not quite sure how you worked 40 hrs a week for 52 weeks from 5th to 10th grades considering the fact that child labor laws would not allow this. Read the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, minors can work up to 18 hours a week during
the school year. Unless you worked illegally (which would not look favorable on
an application), you are full of s***. This leads me to question the validity of
your supposed credentials. Have a nice day!

Wow, I've never seen anything like this before.

The OP has such a great profile that people get jealous and get ****ed off at him. Hilarious.

lolololololol. hahahahahaha. Yeah, OP, get a life! Stop preparing for Ivy League or doing community service or working towards success. Go watch some Saturday morning cartoons! hahahahahahaha.

Oh my god, internship with Fortune 500 company? 7s on all IB tests?? 5s on all AP tests??? 2350 SAT???? Wholesale Business Manager????? First place at New York DECA?????? YOU'RE SO LAME!!!!!!!!!! lolololololol. hahahaha.

You've listed your participation in more than 8 clubs, and they are all over the place (not 8 science or 8 music or 8 volunteering etc). That is only going to make your application look disjointed and unfocused.

Really? Seems to me like he’s obviously leaning towards business.

I wouldn't call it being jealous. The law doesn't lie. You cannot work 40 hours a week, during your fifth grade school year. What part of that do you not understand?

Hence it was a family business. There isn't exactly any child labor laws in place when I willingly help my parents. 18 hours a week lol :p. There are kids in my area and kids all over the U.S. who have worked more than 18+ hours a week during school regardless of where the law says. When you look at helping out the family with finances, I think the government would rather you do that than look to welfare. Anyway, colleges look favorably on that au contraire to your naive opinion. It shows how much a student had to overcome to be where they are. To work and do well academically takes motivation, perseverance, and diligence. If I stayed on my couch watching TV all day long and then got good grades, I'll be shocked if I can get into a community college. Don't criticize when you don't know half the details.

By the way, when I say colleges look favorably on students helping out their family with work, that was from my college counselor= he has tons of experience with admissions [Getting about 20+ Kids into HYPS], family friends whose attended HYPS, and admission officers from HYPS. While I rather relax, not all of us have wealthy parents who can afford us walking crutches that we can use all our life. Good for those who have legacies, it would be nice if I had that too. :P

"5 Years of 52 Week 40 Hours a Week Job From 5th to End of 10th Grade" isn't that what you said from your op? Now its "18 hours a week lol". I think you have to be more specific when you are noting these things. I do not mean any disrespect to you or your family and I am not trying to deter you from your ambitions, you just have to be more clear. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure you will be fine for any one of those schools. Although our valedictorian who had a perfect 2400 and great ec's was rejected from Princeton and is now going to Brown. Good Luck to your admissions process.

18 hours a week lol= your naive thought. That is not how much I worked. Schedule:
Sat (10-11)
Sun (10-10)
Weekdays (4-10)
~Obvious Breaks for Homework and Etc and It adds up to about 40 hours per week on average.

My summer schedule is even nicer
MON-FRI
10-10
SAT-SUN
10-11
I use 40 Hours per week as an average in order to factor in any downtime during the school year for my other ECs.
~Call up a family business and ask if their children actually follow the 18hour/week limit lol.
In my case, I got paid an allowance versus an actual salary. :). 18 hours a week=to prevent child labor use=family business isn't child labor=family business is helping the family :p

~Call up a family business and ask if their children actually follow the 18hour/week limit lol.

Well, then, the kids must be fined 250,000 dollars or 25 years in jail. The rest of the family should be executed.

I'm sorry you think everyone else is retarded, but I understand this law perfectly. I personally have a friend who worked WAY over the limit. Sure, it's illegal. It's also illegal to download pirated music and videos off the internet. It's also illegal to tell the guy at the movie theater that your son is 11 when he's actually 12. It's also illegal to flick boogers into the wind in Alabama. (lol) What exactly are you trying to argue here? The OP's family had a business and they needed people to support the business so naturally, they got their son to do it. What, are they going to be dragged out onto the street by a mob and lynched? What do you think the universities will consider to be more important, the fact that he has absolutely amazing business experience or that he worked too much?

However, what I don't understand is why you need to whine and complain and attack the OP for something completely insignificant.

You're in denial.

:) Kids work out of necessity, not out to make an extra few bucks or rip off the federal gov of taxes.

First off, I'd appreciate it if you lay off the Ad Hominem attacks.

"Kids work out of necessity, not out to make an extra few bucks or rip off the federal gov of taxes." "There isn't exactly any child labor laws in place when I willingly help my parents. 18 hours a week lol . There are kids in my area and kids all over the U.S. who have worked more than 18+ hours a week during school regardless of where the law says."

Do two wrongs make a right? Are you somehow immune to the law?

I'm not whining and complaining and attacking. Like one of you said "I understand this law perfectly.", "Sure, it's illegal."

So if its illegal, it isn't allowed, it is breaking the law! If you break the law, you are subject to be penalized by the law. What part of that do you not understand? When a law is broken, i expect justice to be served, not for someone to mock the law itself.

There are also plenty of business who follow the law fully. It is illegal to have undocumented workers who you do not pay taxes on, especially children!!! Is your family's business something special where you feel you do not have to play by the rules?

Did you catch that OP? Go turn yourself into the police you evil, evil person.

What's wrong with that? A law is not something that is infallible. Laws have flaws and are subject to change. Except for inherent rights, all laws are simply the products of whatever cities/states/regions/countries that the laws affect. Frequently, if there are enough people opposing a law, then it is clear that it is not the people who are at fault, but the law itself.

Now, I am not saying there is flaw with this law, but there is a huge problem with your argument.

You seen to be one of those people that see the world in black and white, correct? You cannot treat all laws the same way. There are terrorists, murderers, sex offenders, drug dealers, gangs, bank robbers, etc. that the police need to worry about. Nabbing kids who willingly work over 18 hrs. a week for their parents isn't exactly on the top of their to do list, and it's certainly nothing that we need to freak out over.
