Hey, I'd really appreciate any feedback on my chances for these schools:

-Boy Scouts:
My Eagle Scout project, a total of about 130 man hours, involved clearing out a local park that had become pretty much unusable and repairing alot of its benches, stone walls, etc. (kind of the cliche eagle project, but i thought it turned out really well)

I also helped organize and lead an inter-troop outreach program in which our troop (which is fairly wealthy) regularly took an inner city troop on various trips and camp outs that it normally wouldn't be able to participate in.

Work Experience:

-Summer Internship at the State Department.

-Part time job at Barnes and Noble throughout Junior and Senior years.

ECs:

-Debate Team (Captain): National Qualifier, State Finalist

-Model United Nations (Captain): Various delegate awards

-School Newspaper (Editor-in-Chief): This is kind of my proudest (though not necessarily my most prestigious) accomplishment. As a staff writer, I really tried to bring more "real world" stories into the paper as opposed to the tired features about sports teams, etc., and worked as the political coorespondent. At the same time, and especially when I became editor, I worked to make sure the paper really fulfilled the obligations of a journalistic publication, investigating real school issues, like millions of wasted fundrasing dollars that were being pumped into a new baseball field that was behind schedule and over budget. Unfortunately, because my school is private, it was very much able to censor the paper. So, I really took pride in fighting with the administration over the publication of these articles. I especially take pride in my article about gay students' difficulties at Catholic schools, which as you can imagine caused a huge battle with the principal.

I think this experience would make for a great essay. Should I make it more about the journalistic integrity part of it? Maybe the Ivies would be a little turned off by an essay about fighting for gay students, just because they're fairly conservative. Let me know what you think.

-Honor Roll (90 average or above) during Freshman Year

-Principal's List (95 average or above) Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year

-Journalism Department Award

Rec Letters:

-My AP US History and AP English teachers really like me, so they should give me great letters.

-I've gotten to know my guidance counselor fairly well, so hers should be good too.

-I could also send an additional one from my debate coach, newspaper advisor, state department supervisor, or one of my georgetown professors.

I think that's everything. Thanks, guys!
