I know that my SAT I and SAT II's and ECs are very low but hopefully I will get my SAT I to 2250 or above. If you have any suggestions please offer them. Should I add more safety schools, more matches, or more reaches?

You’re in at Dallas and W&M (at Dallas, you could probably get a full ride!); Cornell is a match. UVA, Notre Dame, and UChicago are low matches; Duke is a low reach (Columbia might be, too, though I’m not too certain…mid-reach, maybe?). Princeton and MIT are reaches, but they are for everyone…as is all of HYPSM, really, haha. Good luck!

U of Dallas - Safety
William and Mary - Low Match
UNC-CH - Match
UVA - Match
Notre Dame - Match
U of Chicago - High Match
Duke - Mid Reach
Cornell - Mid Reach
Columbia - Mid Reach
MIT - High Reach
Princeton - High Reach

^I would not say UNC-CH is a match in this situation. Maybe a high match/low reach. Dont get me wrong, your profile is very impressive, but OOS UNC is incredibly competitive.

U of Dallas - Safety
William and Mary - Match
UNC-CH - Low Reach
UVA - High Match
Notre Dame - low/mid Reach
U of Chicago - Mid Reach
Duke - Reach
Cornell - Mid Reach
Columbia - Reach
MIT - High Reach
Princeton - High Reach

Would it help that my grandfather taught for a long time at UNC or is the completely irrelevant?

Thanks for the replies. Any thing I could do to really increase my chances at some of the low reach places?

@smorgasbord You said UVA, ND, and UChicago are low matches? Are you sure? I was thinking they would be a match or high match.

@NCBoy1 Do you think OOS UNC is more difficult to get in to than UVA?

PergeModo: The people commenting on this thread are really confused and misinformed.

Look at kash money’s predictions. They are much more accurate. Get your SAT CR and W to 720 or so and your chances are more like eak325’s, except with Chicago/Duke/Cornell as high matches, and the rest low-mid reaches.

@phuriku How bad are my ECs?

^ Your ECs are average…not great because they don’t really have a focus, but you do have a few so they’re not bad.

However, I don’t think that you should list a self-study AP as an EC especially because you are listing a lotttt of time for it. I self-studied Micro, Macro and APHuG last year and it didn’t take me nearly that much time so I think that it might look like you are attempting to find fillers for your ECs.

I was really impressed with your schedule though. Greek sounds very awesome!

Haha, yeah I should remove that because in all reality, I only studied about 5 hours for the exam.

Well it’s Ancient Greek. This year we are reading 1500 lines of the Iliad (in Greek of course).

I want to play up my classics but unfortunately haven’t done many ECs to show my passion.

Essays are a great way to show that passion! That could be made into a great topic

This may be a silly question but how similar are modern Greek and ancient Greek?

Another thread with lots of participants without a clue. Cornell a match? Cornell and Columbia mid reachers, the same in spite of very different admit rates? This is bad.

Every ivy is a massive reach. With a 2250 they are reaches.

YellowDaisies, they are extremely different! Its like comparing Old English or Germanic to modern English. There are common root words but I would have to start from scratch if I were to study modern Greek.

We learned Attic Greek grades 9-11, which was spoken around 400BC, however Homer’s Iliad is about 800BC. Its the equivalent of reading Shakespeare’s original texts for us.

Excellent suggestion for the essays.

@Redroses Can you chance me then instead of just criticizing other members?
