Your SAT score is quite low and your classes don’t seem quite rigorous. When did you come to the U.S.?

Its not impossible, but it’s not a terribly high chance

Any SAT 2 scores?

Yes, my SAT scores are low… so I’m taking it again coming March.
For the rigor of my school, my classes actually are pretty rigorous.
Taking maybe 2 or 3 APs during your entire high school years is considered pretty difficult. People also take 5 courses per semester whereas I take 6 without a free period.
I don’t know if this is convincing enough for the college.

I’ll be taking SAT 2s in May and June.

I came to the US 9th grade.

Agreed that your courses don’t seem very rigorous. It may be “considered” difficult but is it more difficult at your school than at another? Not having a free period doesn’t say much…many people even take extra classes. o.o

Your ECs are nice though.

My private school is definitely an academically challenging school, especially compared with, say, public high schools. And I think my school does a good job of conveying that to colleges. But thank you for all your input. I am definitely going to try and take more APs next year.
How does this sound for senior year?

AP Calc BC
AP Lit
AP Comparative gov
Independent study for Art
Forensics
Economics

I agree that that is not a lot of APs. I should be finishing high school next year with at least 6 under my belt. Have you taken the ACT? You might find that you do better on that test than you have on the SAT.

SAT2s are a good choice to prove how well you know the subject, especially since it seems like your school doesn’t push as much work on their students. I am jealous of your ECs though! The internship must have been so cool.

I don’t think it’s fair to make comments on what kind of a school my school is… just because you don’t and can’t know it.
I can say that it is extremely rigorous, being a small, traditional private school in one of the most wealthies counties in the country.
The number of AP’s people normally take is smaller than what public school kids would and could take; like 7 APs in one semester?
That is impossible at my school because the Academic office is very selective in accepting students into an AP class - you have to apply with a formal letter, need a teacher recommendation, and the grades.
When our public school friends talk of taking all AP’s their sophomore year, we only laugh because it is clear the standards are different.

I actually understand the stand where s2lees at.

I have a friend who attends one of the most prestigious private schools in CA, and has also only taken about a total of 4 APs. He’s a genius, but got a few A-'s in Honors classes (because he stated that they were even harder than his AP’s). He got early admission to stanford

I personally think you have a good chance, but you need to pull your SAT I a little higher, as everyone else. And try to do a little more out of violin (I’m a violinist who is playing for his 13th year now also, so I can relate to how hard it is to keep on going on an instrument). Definitely send in a recording, since it seems that you are very competitive in violin, and convey yourself well on the essays. If you have any questions, feel free to Private Message me/talk to me (:

Korean and violin pride, whoo! :P

oops, made a small grammar mistake. “as everyone else stated” i meant xD
