Strong Essay about my experience shadowing a patent attorney it is my career path

Thanks and good luck to everyone applying!

While I can’t address your question about UConn admissions chances, I am the mom of an engineering student at another university, so I can sorta help give you feedback in that respect since you are asking …while your unweighted gpa is good I personally was struck by a disconnect between your stated major of engineering, your posted coursework, and your essay topic. Had you not stated your desired major as engineering, I would have guessed it as either pre-law or business.

Have you taken any other courses such as physics or chemistry that might indicate an interest in engineering? (pre-calc is good but not enough by itself) Do you have any outside/extra-curricular activities that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related? When you say “strong essay” about your experience shadowing a patent attorney, did you make a point to relate it to engineering? Is engineering a newly discovered interest/direction (that’s fine if it is, but just clarify that)?

Perhaps you can find ways to address these questions that came to my mind so that engineering admissions will not have them as well…? Just food for thought to tighten up your application if engineering is truly the direction you want to go.

Best of luck. :)

Thanks so much…yes I have taken Physics, Chemistry, Trig…I was just listing my 12 grade courses. I do speak about my love of math, science and law in my essay and how I researched a career I could incorporate those areas…which lead me to patent law. Sorry for the lack of detail I am new to the site wasn’t sure what to post. Thanks again I appreciate your feedback :)
