I was wondering if someone with experience could please tell me what my chances of acceptance are?
I applied to the business school and I know it's selective but I have seen people in past years with my stats get both accepted and rejected but I know it's a different year.
GPA-3.71 weighted
Classes
Freshman year no honors (few offered, 3.4 GPA)
Sophomore year (1 honors (3.9 GPA)
Junior year- (2 honors 1 ap (scored a 4 on the test) 3.8 gpa, took pre calc and calc that year but my school doesn't offer honors math courses so I couldn't take them)
Senior year- (2 honors 1 ap, taking calc 2)
Sat
I scored a 1700 in October (610 math, 560 reading, 530 writing)
I feel my essay was strong
Application was complete on 10/28
status says "we are reviewing yout credentials and a decision will be postes asap"

You should’ve applied undecided. I’m not sure your chances of getting in are too high because you applied to the business school. However, if you do not get it, try calling the admissions office and explaining that you would like to switch over to do DUS and if you are able to do summer session, let them know as well. I’ve heard many stories where students weren’t accepted and made a call to admissions and ended up getting accepted. Good luck!

Will it help that I took ap macro and scored a 4? Also my gpa is very high as my school puts little weight on honors and the highest you can get is like a 4.5 and to get that you would have to take nearly every ap offered and take no electives. My school sends about 150 people to psu each year so we are one of their biggest high schools to send students. Will all that help?

It helps, but. GPA is 3/4 of the decision and test scores are 1/4. They probably won’t look much at your essay. You are probably good for DUS but a 1700 SAT will be low for business. You never know though. You can try and if denied request to be reconsidered for DUS and summer session if you are willing.

@Psupitt02061997… My D has very similiar stats as you, and we also applied directly to Business, which was a bit of a risk. I’ve been tempted to switch her DUS to avoid a possible rejection, but then what if she could have gotten in directly from the start? I think we will definitely be late to find out (January), and I’m worried that if rejected, will reconsideration truly be an option at that point? Ugh, so stressful… What to do, what to do…

@PSUMom1321 - If you were rejected and offered a branch campus, you were probably denied due to qualifications needed for the School of Business. At this point, you’d call admissions and ask if you switched to DUS or summer would your application be reconsidered.

I believe the applications that are rejected without a branch campus option offered are the ones that really don’t have a possible second chance.

Psupitt - I have seen people with your stats get in, but I’m sure if it was for business or not.

@PERplexD … So you think it’s best to wait it out and see what they’re initial decision is? Not interested in a branch… The admissions rep who visited her school told her she meets the UP standards… I just know that business is tougher… But we went for it anyway… Just hope if she doesn’t get into Smeal, it won’t be too late to be reconsidered for DUS (fall).

@PSUMom1321 if you look back on the admissions threads from previous years there are always students who ask to be reconsidered in January or February after their initial application was rejected. It is true that at that point it’s after priority application so space might be more limited, but many people are successful in doing this. The admission process is so frustrating because there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason for anything!

@jihpsu… I’ve read through them, and that seems encouraging. As for reconsideration being late in the game and after the priority deadline, I would HOPE admissions would look at the ORIGINAL submission date (September22)…
It certainly wouldn’t be fair to make an applicant wait 4 month for their initial decision, and they say sorry, it’s too late for reconsideration… I don’t think that would be the case, but of course I worry about every possible scenario.

I read the average accepted sat for business is a 1212 cr+m. I have an 1170 so hoping that will be close enough considering they take people with less than that and people with a higher score. of I get rejected from Pitt in the next week or two I may switch to DUS to be on the safe side. If I get into Pitt then I’ll have a back up!

I think you’ll definitely get main/DUS. However business is really competitive. You’re stuff seems pretty strong though so I’m sure you’ll be fine
