Please Chance Me!

So I know my grades aren't the best in science but I'm hoping I can make up for that with my extra carriculars and skills in language and journalism. I want to major in history or politics so I'm hoping my science grades dont' weigh me down as much as I think they will. I go a public school in CT that is nationally ranked and sends many kids to Ivy Leagues and Top LAC's. I haven't taken my SAT's yet(will be doing so in March). Also my course load is in the top 3% for challenging. I have some kick ass recomendations lined up and my essays will be good as well.

I think that you have a decent chance, especially if you keep up your "A’ in bio this year and can get a decent grade next year, you would show improvement in your grades. You certainly have some interesting ECs that you are involved in.

I think for haverford especially, a more significant portion of your application is your essays and how much you would really fit at the school. My sister was waitlisted a few years ago with excellent grades, but a really halfhearted essay on the honorcode.

thanks so much for your feedback! my grades have gone up a lot from freshman year and i’m doing pretty well so far this year. i plan on writing fantastic essays and writing is probably my stongest skill. however, its my PSAT scores that are freaking me out! i hope those prep classes i signed up for work!

This doesn’t have much to do with your chances, but I’m curious about the order of your science courses. I think in most schools the order would have been reversed: bio as a frosh, chem as a soph like you had it, and then physics as a junior. I don’t think the school did you any favors by having you (or letting you) take honors physics as a freshman. If bio and physics had been reversed, my guess is your grade in physics may have been better. Maybe Haverford would notice this as well, or if there was some special reason you took honors physics as a freshman, you could point that out. That would typically be a pretty tough course for a freshman.

well my school likes to push its students to the limits! i go to a really rigourous, highly ranked public school! and yes the order is very unusual but freshman must take physics. i sure hope haverford notices this!

hey my fellow indian
you have a good chance, and wow six languages!!! good luck:)

thanks funny punjabi! actually i’m pakistani! but i was born and raised here in the U.S.!

oh my bad, indian or pakistani still a DESI haha

haha! exactly!

sorry for posting on this your chance thread

Regarding the physics honors course as a freshman, if you are concerned about that grade, maybe instead of hoping they notice it was an especially tough course for a freshman, I would suggest asking your guidance counselor to specifically point it out in his/her recommendation.

I was wondering the same earlier, but didn’t mention it. Had you taken math through precal as a freshman, because really you need trig to do alot of mechanics problems that involve angles. My younger sister took IPC as an 8th grader in geometry 1 and had trouble with trajectory and other problems because she lacked some basic math skills.

Very odd. But I agree with Casey75, you should draw some light on the situation on your app.

I definately hope my guidance counselor mentions it, especially considering the fact that I moved to the school district my the summer before my freshman year started from an inner city school where there was little focus on math and science.

I think you have a really good chance. I know I had at least two Cs and I got in through ED.

^ congrats on getting in! thats so exciting!! and thank u for ur chance :)
