Minority status
Strong math, science, and writing skills
Went from 3.75 W (3.5 U) GPA for 10th to 4.4 W (4.0 U) GPA for 11th

Reasons for above colleges
Rice- premed, strong academics
Chicago- strong academics, intellectual atmosphere, interesting
Tufts-premed, study abroad, nice people, strong academics, near Boston
NW- chemistry, premed, near Chicago
UCB- proximity/location, prestige, science, sports
UCI- safe campus, safety
UCSD- safe campus, weather, has pharmacological chem, safety
UCLA- sports, chemistry, diversity, LA Lakers fan

FYI: Colleges that last year’s seniors in my HS got into
UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD, Dartmouth, Penn, Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Yale, U of Maryland, Reed, Georgetown, Columbia, NYU, Brown

I would work hard to raise your SAT scores, that seems to be your biggest weakness right now.

Chicago- strong academics, intellectual atmosphere, interesting
Tufts-low reach/match
NW- I think their premed program is really really good so high reach
UCB- mid reach
UCI- match/in
UCSD- match/in
UCLA- mid reach

are you looking at any safeties? UCI and UCSD seem like good ones but just in case I’d apply to a few others

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735819-i-cant-believe-im-actually-doing-but.html</a></p>

thx can someone also chance me for chicago? and should i retake math sat 2?

I would retake the subject tests, yea. I would say U of Chicago is a lowish reach. Why not also apply to Davis, Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz. UCD and UCSC could be nice safeties, and UCSB is a lot better than UCI, in my opinion. chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736144-chance-upcoming-senior-my-school-picks.html</a></p>

For Chicago, I would work on the SAT’s.
Honestly, I would go ahead and apply, especially if that’s your #1 choice. You never know what could happen.
If you’re looking into UMD @ College Park, then that’s a definite apply!
I live in Maryland and the campus is gorgeous plus they have a rising reputation.

Good luck to you and your future.
Chance back please

Yeah i’d say UCI and UCSD are matches, the rest are reaches, but if you bring the SAT to a 2100+ (or 1400 composite) then your chances at all are pretty good

ok, thx to everyone who chanced!

work on your SAT’s and you have a pretty good shot at most of those universities!
chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735826-mit-stanford-hopkins-chance-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

just replying to your post under my thread:
i would apply because UMDCP does take 30% out of state and plus, i think living in California would give you an advantage especially for their demographic stats!

I’ve looked at Rutgers, but I heard it was a really sketchy area haha, who knows.

well you might be aiming a little too high with those privates, those are all really tough schools but to be honest, being a poor minority many states away helps alot, if you can raise your SAT to about 2000 then you have a chance if you murk the essays. the UCs you should be fine in though, maybe not in at UCLA but the other for sure. for the privates though make the admissions officer give you a nickname, if you make sure you stand out, you will be remembered and probably get in

GOOD LUCK!! THX for the chance!

Raise the SAT scores and most of the mid reaches will be more like low reach to match schools. I see that you’re senior year courseload is really tough so that’s good but yeah… maybe pump up those ecs a bit

rice, mid reach
tufts, not sure
Chicago, mid reach
northwestern, mid to high reach
ucb, low reach
ucla,in
uci, dunno
ucsd - in

Rice- reach
Chicago- high reach
Tufts-reach
NW- reach
UCB- mid-reach
UCI- high match
UCSD- high match
UCLA- low reach

definetly raise your SAT scores
also if you’re low income…minority…etc…
good think to talk about in your essays
colleges love people in “tough” situations overcoming adversity…
the more adversity the better…

Im going to sound like a broken record and just repeat most of what has been said above. You’re definitely active in your school and community and get good grades, but your scores are a little low. I’m not sure about the exact acceptance rate of the schools you put down but I know they are fairly selective. . .I’d say you have a shot but aren’t by any means guaranteed. Retake the SAT1 as many times as you can, give the ACT a shot, and make sure you use the official study guides for both. If you need more practice tests after the official guides, Grubbers makes a good SAT math review and the Princeton Review has a good SAT vocab list. Good luck

umm a little new here, how do you post a new thread/bulletin?
