anyone out there? :P

Your scores are low, and so is your GPA/rank, but everything else looks awesome -- so maybe you'll have a shot...

yeah, not to sound terrible, but i had pretty high scores and decent GPA and pretty strong ecs, and i got rejected early desicion. swarthmore honestly, is one of the hardest to get into. my friend also applied early is in the top 5 of the class (out school is liek 7th in the nation) had same sats as me, i think like 2250ish, and cured cancer over the summer and she got defered, so yeah

alex- yeah i know i took a chance, but it's worth a try right?

anyone else out there?

eskimo,

I wish you luck, but based on your profile I am not sure Swarthmore is the right place for you, even if you do get in.

I think I'd have to second Nngmm on that. I know of a lot of people with very high SATs, GPAs and strong EC who were rejected ED (you can look back in the ED thread). Considering their rejections (and granted, one never knows a). the full picture of their applications, b). what is going on inside the AO's head (the quintessential mystery), I don't see how you could be admitted. Similarly, I was rejected ED from Haverford with a 4/4 uw, a high SAT and myriad (though not as many you!) ECs/some good hooks. One never knows.
Your ECs are great and mark you as a very dedicated person (which is ultimately far more important in life than your SAT score) but the fact is, that ECs are very important but colleges are admitting you primarily based on your academics as that is the mission of their institutions, not service. ECs can only carry a person so far if she is too far below the school's range in various academic parametres.
That said, if you don't get into Swat (stat wise, I would put Wellesley, Barnard, Brown and Vassar in the same category for you: reaches), you still have a lot of great universities and LACs from which to choose. Writing that many essays must have been exhausting; props to you! Best of luck.

froghorn- true, but even so, im worried about getting into a majority of the LACs on my list.. hope i do :/ One thing that i regret about high school is that i spent much more time on the extra things as opposed to making my grades my first priority. often times i would have sleepless nights trying to balance them both out. but i really will be a lot more committed (of course) in college. and yes those essays... let's just say.. my winter break wasn't much of a "break" at all. thank you for the props! :]

is it possible for a college to put me on academic probation for the first semester? or something along those lines? like to be accepted but only under certain circumstances? I'm thinking of writing barnard/wellesley/brown about that option, about promising to maintain a certain gpa the first semester or they can kick me out. something like that. i just think it sounds more promising, and it will give the jist that i am committed. what do you think?

I don't believe any college will admit you if they have any doubt that you can be successful there. I would not write and suggest any "academic probations" before you are admitted. I don't believe those exist, and your letter will only draw extra attention to the sub-par scores.

You will get in somewhere (maybe even most of the schools you applied to), and , based on your resume, you'll be very successful no matter where you go to school. Just wait and see what happens in April.

i actually believe that you're a great fit for Swarthmore and for many of the other places you have applied to. i understand that even though the school admits people who have done a wealth of activities and who have high gpas, they admit even more people who are passionate about their academics or ecs, or both.you truly seem passionate about your ecs and you're taking very challenging courses, moreover, your activities are not entirely individual and affect (in a very good way) many other people. to say that you don't have a shot is an understatement. however, i agree w/nngmm on the fact that it would not be a good idea to draw a greater deal of attention to what you may deem as a weakness; i had a similar situation in which i wanted to write a letter to swat, but forgetmenots advised me not to, and i understand why. i'm not going to raise your hopes and tell you that you will be accepted, but i'm also not going to say that you will be rejected; it's not my decision. i'm not an admissions officer, and yeah i'm just a prospective, but i know for a fact that your applications will be looked at CAREFULLY. so, try not to worry (i know it's easier said then done, there's probably not a day that goes by that i don't think about the schools i have applied to), also from what i have read about you, you seem that you will do well wherever you go :)

I agree. I think one should never give a college any reason to doubt their scholastic capacities. Also, what I think will be your downfall at some of these ridiculously selective schools is that they try to corroborate grades with SAT and vs. Those are the critical links you are missing (for those select schools). For example, I could completely see Sarah Lawrence, a bastion of creativity, being more accepting and willing to overlook those aspects and embrace your enthusiasm. I'd be surprised if you didn't get into Fordham and NEU. And for all we know, you might get into Swat.

dnalorkoi1 and froghorn- Thanks so much to the both of you for lifting my spirits and offering some great advice, I really appreciate it :)
