Hello! I have senior year scheduling in two days, and I’d love some opinions on my draft!

I’m thinking of studying something in humanities, particularly journalism, and applying to top tier colleges, such as Columbia and Northwestern. I’d also like the mobility to change my focus, if the situation ever arises, though.

I’m wondering if my planned schedule is indicative of my interest and exhibits a strong enough focus. Also, I’d really appreciate advice on how to supplement it in order to sharpen that focus.

Thank you!!

I definitely think you have a strong senior schedule! Does your school offer AP Physics? What do you plan on majoring in in college?

Have you taken calculus and do you have 4 years of the same language?

If AP Calc is an option, take it. Also, 4 years of a language looks really nice.Unless you are really interested in the social sciences I would drop either HUG or Psych in favor for a language.

If you are interested in business/math I would drop both psych and hug, and take stat and calc instead.

I took AP Calc AB this year. I could continue on to Calc 2 and 3 next year instead of doing AP stats, what would you recommend?

I would take a 4th year of Spanish, but the language department just recently combined Spanish 3 and Spanish 4 classes, and I’ve heard from many that they spent the whole year reviewing Spanish 3 and haven’t learned anything new (one girl called the combined class an “absolute joke”). I thought that taking psych would be a better option because I’ve always been fascinated with it and love social science. Will not taking a fourth year of foreign language be a big deal in the admissions process?

I’m no expert. however, what you might consider doing is calling the admissions offices at some of your top choice schools and ask an admissions officer what they think about the language class; ask them if not having 4 years will place you at a disadvantage. This is how you can get the best answer.
