Please explain the undeclared freshman thing.

I am an aspiring biology major, and possibly an aspiring medical student. From my understanding, an applicant cannot apply directly into a program at Holy Cross. I visited the campus for a fall open house and fell in love with school. However, I am worried that if I attend Holy Cross I may not be accepted into the biology or pre-med program. How competitive is it to gain admission to certain majors (specifically science) at Holy Cross.

All students enter undecided because, once you at a student at Holy Cross, you do not need to worry about applying into any program or major. Despite being an interest of many prospective students, the biology major and the Pre-Health Advisory program (which includes pre-med) do not require an application to declare the major or enter the program.

The only requirements for the biology major is that you complete the two introductory courses (which any student can enroll in during their first year) and maintain a C average or better. Students interested in pre-med will follow a similar path, taking three initial courses based in biology and chemistry; if they are still interested and have at least a C average in those courses, they continue with the program. Simply, qualified students are not blocked out of a major or pre-professional program.

Hello !! I would do Foreign Languages at Holy Cross if I get accepted there. What is the program like?

And does HC give full FA to internationals ?

The Holy Cross website states the following: “Enrollment in the Accounting major is limited to 32 students each year and admission is competitive.” I would appreciate it if someone could let me know how many students typically do not make it into this program and what credentials are typically needed to gain admission?

caribgurl – we do not offer financial aid to international (non-US citizens) students

Husker7 – every student must take Financial Accounting in their first year before applying to become an Accounting Major. Admission to the Accounting major is largely based on your achievement in this course, which usually means a C+ or better in the course is necessary to enter into the Accounting program.

For specific questions on the number who usually do not gain admission into the Accounting major, we recommend contact Nancy Baldiga, a professor and chair of the department. Her e-mail is nbaldiga@holycross.edu

While Health Professions advising no longer requires an early acceptance from HPAC, don’t think for a moment that there isn’t a very real competition between many students vying for the coveted Committee support and eventual letter. Maybe this belongs next to thousands of posts in the PreMed section: you must fight to impress the very influential advising staff if you want to stake your claim to the 80%+ who are accepted to Med School from CHC. That 80% applies to those who are chosen by the HPAC. Sometimes a small school can choose for you in ways that you may not have anticipated. You may find after two semesters that the faculty see you as something else; and there is definitely a limit to the numbers that are deemed worthy of the Med School path. Then you find that theirs is the opinion that holds. But that is the nature of PreHealth. Not a ■■■■■, just channeling what was shared with me.
