I really don't want to go. I had a terrible GPA last year (1.8) because of extreme depression and if I want to fix it, I'll have to spend most of my time studying and I wouldn't be able to move out as soon as possible. I dislike living with my parents. I'm constantly insulted (I've been told to go die a lot) and I feel so caged in. I'm not allowed to do anything and my mom is pressuring me to go to college because she never had the change the go and she tells me I'll be nothing without it. I think that kind of attitude is disgusting.

I want to start living life as soon as possible. I'm okay with getting a job and living off of a little. I want to explore everything (nature, etc) and people looking down on me because of a lack of college degree won't affect me. But there seems to be some fun aspects to college (clubs, being able to study what you want). I'm not sure though, I just want to get a job and save up enough money to move out as soon as I can. What do you think? Thanks for reading this.

If you want to do this, your best bet would probably be to go to a 2 year college and get an associate’s degree. College education is actually pretty important, however some people do just fine without it. It is possible to be comfortable without going to college, but you have less of a chance of being comfortable as does someone who actually went to college. After getting your associate’s degree, then you make some money, pay off some debts, move out, and go to a 4 year college if you want to.

First off man…I hope you find an environment that is conducive to your personal growth. I highly suggest working and getting at least an associate degree at first. Please, please, please seek some sort of medical help for your depression. I understand the pain one must suffer because of living in a family that might not understand your issues but it is incredibly important you seek help or at least find a support system that can keep you up while trying to succeed through college.
The great thing about life is that when there is a will, there is a way. Maybe start off with community college. Work for a few years, then get money for a bachelor’s degree at a state school. Maybe masters after that. Life isn’t a race, and going at a slower pace might let you live life a little and explore your options. I sincerely hope things work out!

Yeah, I think getting an associate’s degree or going to a technical college would be best. Thanks for the advice. I dunno about medical help and having a support group. I’m not sure… Thanks though!

Hello? Wondering whether I should do IB or not? Would it help me get into a better college or…?

I don’t know what to do.

It all depends if you want to be independent and work right after high school, in which case you should go the technical high school route (they do have an IB certificate) but if your plan is to get into the best college you can, then yes IB is helpful. It’s hard but if you like to be intellectually stimulated, that’s a good choice. I don’t know whether you’d be eligible due to your GPA though, these programs tend to be selective.
No matter what get help from your primary care physician or you high school counselor for your depression.

Don’t do IB. Get that GPA up, try to lower academic stress, and talk to your counselor about your depression and cost-effective treatment options.
