I'm In my second year of college. Even before college, I didn't want to go. People say college isn't for everyone. My mom got mad when I told her I didn't want to go, and she told me I'm a f**k up and that I'm wasting my life; she eventually forced me to go. Every semester I say how I don't want to go back; every semester she forces me back. I'm 19, I have a job, a boyfriend of a year, and he has a job (a well paying full-time job). I feel like she's only forcing me to go so she can claim me on her taxes.. Actually, that's how she is, so I'm 95% positive that's why. I don't even have good grades; my overall Gpa is a 1.98. I'm on academic probation due to me skipping classes. I just want out. I want to drop out, but I don't know how. I need to take control of my own life. I need to be happy; I'm not happy in college.

Drop out and get a job. You’re over 18 so your parents can’t control you. Simple as that.

What romani said. As for “how,” go to the registrar’s office at your school and ask about withdrawing from your university.

I’m in a situation where I am also considering dropping out. Frankly I’m pretty mad. We were always told that college is our ONLY option. We are trained to think that without college your life ends. My grades are slipping as well, and for a long time I felt like my life was ENDING. How silly, right? My life will not end. We have to find other options, regardless of what our families think. I really wish you luck. I really hope that we can move on with our lives. Millions of people have.

Colllege is not for everyone. However to obtain any type decent job ususally some type of technical training is needed. Find something that you would like to do as a profession and ask your mother to assist you with your training/schooling. Just because your boyfriend has a full time job does not mean you will a) stay together forever b) don’t need to have some way to support yourself in the future.

Ask yourself where do I want to be in 5 years and then figure out how to get there!

I’m not saying this to scare you but it’s generally hard to get a decent paying job in this economy without a degree. You’ve probably heard this before but literally I’ve been in your shoes. I was on academic probation, was dismissed from my college for a semester working a menial job making 7.25 an hour. Every job that didn’t require a college degree I applied for. Jobs like a police officer or a corrections officer I didn’t get because the number of applicants were so high and I had a lackluster resume. So really think about this before you go head on with this decision, maybe even think about transferring to a local community college. But dropping out is a bad idea.
