- Prompt: "That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly. It is dearness only which gives everything its value." Thomas Paine
Assignment:
Do we value only what we struggle for? Plan your response, and then write an essay to explain your views on this issue. Be sure to support your position with specific points and examples. (You may use personal examples or examples from your reading, observations, or, knowledge of subjects such as history, literature, science.)
The value of something depends on the perspective of people. The much time one spends doing something or much effort one puts in can make that thing more valuable compared to another thing as the same price as the former.
With the invention of Money, value became something more numerical. People who strived for grateness, found themselves working hard to earn a lot of Money. Although some people who mainly work in the field of arts and crafts kept on doing their work scrupulously and that was more precious than a note.
In the old times, the Stones were used to build houses and there was no such thing as Money. That situation brings the question of “What did they valued then?”. Their houses were one of the main elements helping them to survive. Therefore, they put an awful lot of effort to build them and struggled to protect them.
What we struggle for, gradually becomes one of the most crucial thing in our lives. The care and giving value increases depending on how much we struggle. For instance, if a business man wants to make his company a top-notch one, he will sure to commit himself and make the best he can. After achieving his goal, he will have fulfilled his dreams and have the most valuable thing in his hands.
To sum up, the thing that you strive for, becomes the thing that you most care about and therefore the most valuable. The opposite thing is also true that if you haven’t put in the necessary effort, you would likely to end up with dissatisfaction from the work you have done.
