Prompt: Is conscience a more powerful motivator than money, fame, or power?

Response :

Morality and conscience, governed human beings, however, can be affected and replaced by the external things such as money, fame and power. These external things will reshape and transform humans to the images that we perceived as “wrong” in the beginning.

The chancellor of the Germany Nazi Party, Hitler, had done inhuman things that were contradicted to conscience and morality. Hitler was ambitious and greedy. He had ruled the country as an absolute dictator. The regime in the nation, however, was not enough for Hitler. In order to supper and extend his control, he led Germany to invade other countries. During his pursuit of dominance, he had caused so many tragedies and disasters. The extermination of the Jews, invasions of other countries and the World War II were all directed under the hands of Hitler. He lost his humanity and conscience because power had captivated him.

Also, in the biography of Malcolm X, it recorded that the organization, The Nation of Islam, had done hypocritical things that were caused by the desire of power and fame. Originally, Malcolm X was the spokesperson of the “religious: organization, the Nation of Islam. Due to his gifted talent, Malcolm soon became famous and attracted the public’s attention. Moreover, Malcolm X had become an icon and a leader who can have a significant impact n the society. On the other hand, the Nation of Islam wanted to restrain Malcolm’s influence so that the organization can sustain its undefeatable power. As the story comes to an end, Malcolm X was murdered and his family was destroyed.

On the other hand, the first king of the first dynasty of China, Qin Shi Huang, had done something similar. Qin wanted the absolute power and rule to govern the country. Eventually, he became a tyrant. He had killed so many people that the blood could from rivers! The reason behind this brutal act was that Qin wanted to protect his status. In addition, such callous killing has earned a cruel reputation for doing things that were contradictory to conscience.

To sum up, the sins of Hitler, the murder of Malcolm X by the Nation of Islam and the killings by Qin can illustrate that money, fame, and power can be more attractive motivations than the conscious character of human.
